Description

SUMMARY

Support teacher in providing a nurturing environment which enhances learning, promotes development and encourages self-esteem for all children.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS/MAJOR TASKS

  1. Assist teacher in all daily classroom routines.
  2. Maintain safe, clean and hygienic classroom environment.
  3. Follow developmentally appropriate practice.
  4. Maintain positive interactions with child and family.

 

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS

  1. Meet regularly with classroom team and maintain positive interactions with all S. June Smith Center staff.
  2. Follows confidentiality guidelines of HIPAA, FERPA, and PA Dept. of Ed. Procedural Safeguards
  3. Work cooperatively with classroom team and families so that goals of IEP are achieved.
  4. Maintain standards of continued education so that skills reflect current evidenced based methods and philosophies and meet compliance with PA department of education regulations.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  1. Primarily in homes or community locations with unknown environmental challenges
  2. Office time with exposure to toners and ink cartridges;
  3. Seasonal displays may include hay, leaves, flowers, pine needles, etc.;
  4. Noise level can be high at times.
  5. Potential exposure to communicable childhood diseases and/or other communicable diseases.
  6. Client may carry fluid or blood-borne pathogens.

Qualifications


1. COMMUNICATION

a. Ability to effectively communicate with individuals served, supervisors, and co-workers, clients and parents of clients using strong and understandable language skills in reading, written work and comprehension.

 

2. SKILLS (Possess the following):

  1. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and professional documents.
  2. Ability to respond to common inquiries from parents, case workers, or members of the early intervention provider community.
  3. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
  4. Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inferences.
  5. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  6. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  7. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  8. The employee is regularly required to talk or hear.
  9. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  10. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  11. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

3. EMPLOYMENT EXPERIENCE

Experience working with children and/or with persons with developmental disabilities.

4. EDUCATION

High school diploma

5. OTHER

Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Child Protective Service Act (Act 33) compliance and FBI clearance, Valid Pennsylvania Driver’s license/ acceptable driving record.
