SUMMARY
Support teacher in providing a nurturing environment which enhances learning, promotes development and encourages self-esteem for all children.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS/MAJOR TASKS
- Assist teacher in all daily classroom routines.
- Maintain safe, clean and hygienic classroom environment.
- Follow developmentally appropriate practice.
- Maintain positive interactions with child and family.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS
- Meet regularly with classroom team and maintain positive interactions with all S. June Smith Center staff.
- Follows confidentiality guidelines of HIPAA, FERPA, and PA Dept. of Ed. Procedural Safeguards
- Work cooperatively with classroom team and families so that goals of IEP are achieved.
- Maintain standards of continued education so that skills reflect current evidenced based methods and philosophies and meet compliance with PA department of education regulations.

WORKING CONDITIONS
- Primarily in homes or community locations with unknown environmental challenges
- Office time with exposure to toners and ink cartridges;
- Seasonal displays may include hay, leaves, flowers, pine needles, etc.;
- Noise level can be high at times.
- Potential exposure to communicable childhood diseases and/or other communicable diseases.
- Client may carry fluid or blood-borne pathogens.
Qualifications
1. COMMUNICATION
a. Ability to effectively communicate with individuals served, supervisors, and co-workers, clients and parents of clients using strong and understandable language skills in reading, written work and comprehension.
2. SKILLS (Possess the following):
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and professional documents.
- Ability to respond to common inquiries from parents, case workers, or members of the early intervention provider community.
- Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
- Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inferences.
- Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
- The employee is regularly required to talk or hear.
- The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Experience working with children and/or with persons with developmental disabilities.

High school diploma

Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Child Protective Service Act (Act 33) compliance and FBI clearance, Valid Pennsylvania Driver’s license/ acceptable driving record.
