Overview
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
As a Direct Support Professional, you must be willing to go above and beyond, be passionate about what you are doing, and have a patient and kind heart. Your hard work will be well worth the effort when you see the members’ happy faces, and their expressions when they achieve something for the first time because of the help and support you provided.
- Personal Care Assistance: Assist members with activities of daily living (ADLs), including bathing, grooming, dressing, and toileting. Support individuals in maintaining personal hygiene and cleanliness.
- Medication Management: Administer medications as prescribed, following proper procedures and documentation. Monitor and report any changes in the member's medication needs or health status.
- Companionship and Emotional Support: Provide companionship and engage members in meaningful activities. Offer emotional support and a listening ear, fostering a positive and caring environment.
- Health Monitoring if applicable: Monitor and record vital signs, symptoms, and any changes in the member's health condition. Report observations and communicate effectively with guardians.
- Communication and Documentation: Maintain accurate and up-to-date member records, documenting care provided and any changes in condition. Communicate effectively and professionally with supervisors, support coordinators, and family members.
- Member Advocacy: Advocate for the rights and preferences of members. Collaborate with other professionals to ensure comprehensive and individualized care.
- Crisis Intervention and Problem-Solving: Handle emergency situations calmly and efficiently. Use problem-solving skills to address challenges and find appropriate solutions.
- Adherence to Policies and Regulations: Follow all relevant policies, procedures, and regulations governing direct care services. Uphold ethical standards and maintain confidentiality.
Requirements
- Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:
- Must be 18 years of age.
- High School Diploma or Equivalent.
- Level 1 Fingerprint Clearance Card.
- Ability to give 3 non-family references.
- 3 months Experience working with individuals with Intellectual/Developmental Disabilities (preferred).
- Must pass background check.
- First-Aid, CPR/AED, and Article 9 Certifications (preferred).
- Prevention & Support Certification (preferred).
- Abuse and Neglect Training (preferred).
- Eligible drivers must have a clean 39-month MVD report and have a valid AZ (preferred) Driver License.
- Experience working with individuals with disabilities is preferred, particularly in group home or home health settings.
- Knowledge of resident rights and commitment to advocating for them.
- Ability to provide patient care with empathy and respect.
- Strong communication skills to effectively interact with residents, families, and team members.
- Physical capability to lift individuals safely when required.
- Must be reliable, punctual, and possess a strong work ethic.
Work Environment/Physical Requirements: We strive to maintain a safe working environment for both members and staff. However, when working in the environment, there is the potential for portions of the job to become hazardous through contact with bodily fluids, a member lashing out or tossing of objects, assisting with lifting, etc. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. ·
- Lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling. This will include weights limits up to and above 35lbs.
- Will be required to assist lifting, holding, or positioning members with disabilities.
- May be required to sit or stoop on the floor for extending periods of time.
- May be required to stand or bend over repeatedly throughout the day.
- Required to assist in maintaining a clean environment. This includes but not limited to, using the vacuum, wiping tables, mopping, toileting members, cleaning up of bodily fluids.
- Ability to work outdoors year-round to assist with drop-off/pickup, community outings, and supervising members while outside and any other assigned duties.
- Attend weekly community outings with various activities- ex. not limited to the following: parks, retail stores, grocery stores, airport, museums, aquariums, movies, trampoline park, restaurants, etc.

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $16.50 - $19.50 per hour
Expected hours: 35 – 40 per week
