Qualifications

A valid state license endorsed in Speech-Language Pathology (Mississippi Certification Code 215, 216)

Meet other necessary requirements as stipulated by the Board of Trustees and the State Department of Education

Job Goal

To help reduce or eliminate speech and language disorders that interfere with the individual student’s ability to derive full benefit from the district’s educational program.

Essential Functions

Assists and guides teachers in observing, describing, and referring suspected and identified speech and language disorders.

Provides a comprehensive assessment and diagnosis of speech (articulation, voice, fluency, language) disorders.

Provides appropriate individualized programs of therapy to meet individual students’ needs and correct existing speech and/or language disorders.

Collaborates with classroom teachers and other school staff to foster communicative competence in students’ daily activities.

Provides information, support, and counseling to parents and families when appropriate.

Provides screening to identify speech/language handicapped children at regular intervals and at specified levels.

Assists in proper referrals of students to agencies and specialists in the community as appropriate.

Keeps complete, current, ongoing records for individual students receiving therapy according to SDE and EES guidelines.

Assumes primary responsibility for assigned therapy materials, tests, and equipment.

Performs other related duties as requested or assigned.

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of personnel.
