POSITION TITLE

 

Occupational Therapist—Exceptional Student Services

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Arizona State License for Occupational Therapists.
  2. Valid Arizona State Driver’s License.
  3. Valid Arizona State Department of Public Safety Fingerprint Clearance Card.
  4. Successful work experience in an educational setting with students with physical disabilities required.
  5. Ability to communicate effectively with instructional staff, paraprofessionals, professionals outside of school/community, and parents.

Exceptional Student Services Director

 

JOB GOAL

 

To identify, evaluate, and provide direct services for the students requiring occupational therapy in order to promote successful inclusion of students in the general programs.  The occupational therapist will provide expertise and leadership to the multidisciplinary team in regard to identification, progress monitoring, and discharge.

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Provides individualized evaluation of students from preschool to 22 years of age to assess functional needs according to state and federal guidelines.
  1. Develops and implements individualized education plans for students who require occupational therapy.
  1. Serves as liaison between medical professionals and school personnel regarding occupational therapy and as a consultant to teachers and parents.
  1. Assists with child find screenings to meet state and federal guidelines for child find activities.
  1. Consults directly with classroom teachers and support personnel for reinforcement of fine motor activities for students according to student individualized education programs.
  1. Provides in-service training to teachers, support staff, and parents to promote an environment in which students will generalize their fine motor skills.
  1. Advocates for 504 and referred needs of the students at Student Intervention and Student Appraisal Team meetings.
  1. Works cooperatively with instructional personnel to offer a continuum of motor activity based instructional programs.
  1. Works cooperatively with the director of exceptional student services and other evaluators to promote the best practices in direct therapy, diagnostic materials, and the District’s exceptional student services program.
  1. Maintains student records in accordance with federal and state regulations and complete confidentiality.
  1. Collaborates with the physical therapist in the completing orders and maintaining equipment and supplies for physical therapy.
  1. Participates in professional growth opportunities to develop professional skills and knowledge.
  1. Performs other job related duties as assigned by the director of exceptional student services.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

 

Ten months a year.  The Governing Board will establish salary and work year.

 

EVALUATION

 

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s Policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
