POSITION TITLE

 

Physical Therapist—Exceptional Student Services

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Bachelors of Science in a major field of physical therapy from an accredited college or university with a degree in physical therapy. Master’s Degree preferred.
  2. Pass the national examination and obtain State licensure pursuant to the Arizona Board regulations.
  3. Valid Arizona State Fingerprint Clearance Card.
  4. Experience as a practicing physical therapist.
  5. Bilingual English/Navajo preferred.

Director of Exceptional Student Services

 

JOB GOAL

 

To promote the social, emotional and educational development of each student in the District.  The physical therapist will develop, coordinate and implement appropriate therapeutic program and services for identified students in the District.  Provide services to promote student access to the general education curriculum and progress through their program.

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Supports early intervening services through the Child Find process such as a Multi-tiered System of Supports (MTSS), Response to Intervention (RTI) and universal design for learning through direct and consultative services.
  1. Assists the Multidisciplinary Evaluation Team (MET) in observing and describing concerns regarding impairments.
  1. Conducts screening and assessments, interprets results to MET and writes appropriate recommendation reports.
  1. Validates outside diagnostic evaluations and program recommendations.
  1. Develops, monitors and reports on school-based physical therapy in student’s Individualized Education Plans (IEP) that supports specially designed instruction.
  1. Provides direct service to the student as indicated on IEP.
  1. Consults with school staff, parents and agencies regarding student needs, progress and instructional accommodations and/or modifications.
  1. Participates on the District MET and IEP teams to prevent failure or improve performance and instructional practices, such as assistive technology, high school transition, positive behavior support, early intervention, etc.
  1. Enhances student’s benefits by identification, procurement or adaptation of special materials and equipment and/or assistive technology.
  1. Trains school staff in activities, use of assistive technology and/or appropriate accommodations to be implemented throughout the school day and across environments.
  1. Directs activities of teachers and technical assistants in refining physical therapy skills of the students with supported training as needed.
  1. Communicates effectively, both orally and in written form.
  1. Maintains documentation, including relevant data needed to recommend and monitor students response to therapeutic services, including intervention plans, session notes, and assessment summaries in accordance with the Arizona Physical Therapy Practice Act (APTPA) as well as the school district, State and Federal policies.
  1. Engages in professional growth activities.
  1. Establishes and maintains good rapport with students, employees, community members and vendors.
  1. Maintains a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality.
  1. Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

 

Ten (10) months a year.  The Governing Board will establish salary and work year.

Salary : $51,500 - $70,551
