Job Title: Mainframe Systems Engineer III – z/OS & MVOS Specialist
Location: Remote | Hybrid | On-site (Jacksonville, FL or Atlanta, GA)
Salary Range: $120,000 – $150,000 (based on experience and qualifications)
Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled Mainframe Systems Engineer III with strong z/OS expertise, particularly in MVOS on IBM Mainframes, and a solid background with Broadcom Mainframe technologies. This is a senior-level engineering role focused on the installation, configuration, and support of IBM Z Series Mainframe systems and related software. The ideal candidate will bring a proactive, solutions-oriented mindset, capable of working independently while supporting broader service delivery and project-based initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead the installation, configuration, and ongoing support of IBM Z Series mainframe software, including z/OS and associated components.
Utilize the Hardware Management Console (HMC) to configure and IPL mainframe LPARs.
Evaluate and implement vendor-supplied software packages, with recommendations to IT leadership.
Modify and enhance utilities, packages, and technical documentation related to system software applications.
Diagnose and resolve complex software problems, identifying root causes and implementing sustainable solutions.
Contribute to continuous improvement efforts across systems operations and engineering processes.
Mentor junior engineers and provide subject matter expertise across teams.
Deliver on project-based goals with a focus on efficiency, documentation, and communication.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
Minimum 6 years of experience in mainframe systems administration and programming.
Demonstrated expertise in z/OS systems and MVOS environments.
Hands-on experience with tools and languages such as HLASM, COBOL, JCL, REXX, CLIST, TSO, ISPF, and SMPE.
Proficient in configuring and managing LPARs through the HMC.
Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
