What are the responsibilities and job description for the Superintendent position at Executive Construction?

It is the responsibility of a Superintendent to supervise and coordinate assigned projects in order to complete the work on time, within budget, and to the highest quality while serving as Executive Construction’s field representative. The Superintendent is responsible to protect and promote the interests of Executive Construction in all matters. In the performance of this role the Superintendent will protect and promote the interest of Executive Construction in all matters; interface with the owner, design team, and customer; and take actions as required to execute the following duties.


Responsibilities

Preconstruction

  • Collaborate on the development of the Master Project Schedule
  • Support constructability reviews and logistics planning
  • Attend pre-bid meetings and walk-throughs, as required
  • Attend trade partner scope reviews prior to trade award
  • Identify and proactively plan for safe practices on the project; communicate with trade partners regarding upcoming critical safety tasks


Scheduling

  • Identify and track/update long lead items and material procurement
  • Prepare and distribute look ahead schedules and focus schedules
  • Coordinate all required inspections (municipal, material, etc.)
  • Schedule all trade and manpower activities for logical and efficient work flow
  • Identify schedule slippage (if applicable) and provide a recovery plan

 

Job Management

  • Prepare and distribute detailed Daily Construction Reports (DCRs).
  • Host weekly trade partner coordination meetings and provide detailed meeting minutes
  • Pro-actively manage and report Executive Construction direct labor
  • Lead schedule and field issue discussions during OAC meetings
  • Prepare and maintain emergency contact list
  • Conduct start-up meetings with trade partners to review scope of work, schedule, and safety requirements
  • Enforce all terms of the general contract and subcontract agreements
  • Manage QA / QC program, including inspecting and approving work product
  • Prepare RFI’s providing recommended solutions for consideration
  • Understand, maintain, and organize documents, i.e., drawings, specs, supplemental sketches, shop drawings, and approved submittals
  • Seek opportunities to enhance project efficiencies
  • Manage and communicate field initiated trade contactor field requests
  • Manage efficient and timely project close-out including punch list completion, as-built review, and attic stock demobilization
  • Track jobsite tools and equipment
  • Utilize Sway to create and publish weekly progress photos

 

Safety

  • Properly use Executive Construction job signage and understand branding protocol
  • Hold trade partner foremen responsible for safe practices within their scope
  • Follow and support trades to ensure all Executive Construction / OSHA safety rules are followed
  • Maintain current OSHA required certifications, i.e., 30-hour, CPR, and scaffold
  • Maintain a clean work site
  • Perform weekly safety inspections, document findings, and oversee timely completion of corrections
  • Report same day accident / incident to Director of Field Operations, Safety Director, and Project Team
  • Prepare and maintain Emergency Action Plan for specific projects
  • Support project team as needed to address issues as they arise
  • Track subcontractor insurance for access to buildings
  • Host and present weekly toolbox talks

 

Training

  • Participate in Executive Construction’s training program
  • Dedicate time for ongoing constructability education and understanding all aspects of construction drawings
  • Recommend training topics, lessons learned, etc.

 

Business Development

  • Enhance Executive Construction’s reputation with partners through performance and relationships
  • Expand your network by planning and attending appropriate social and business events


Required Skills/Abilities

  • Understand drawings and details used in design and construction
  • Intermediate understanding of Project Management Software (e.g., Field Work Center, Microsoft Project, Microsoft Office, Bluebeam, Sway, and OneDrive/SharePoint, etc.)
  • Basic skills in Microsoft 365 suite
  • Intermediate presentation skills
  • Clear verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to remain flexible and efficient in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to make intelligent and quick decisions, working well under pressure, and when faced with unexpected occurrences or delays
  • Ability to effectively analyze and solve problems
  • Must be able to traverse and inspect all areas of jobsites
  • Must be on-call to address issues at the jobsite
  • Present a professional appearance and demeanor at all times
  • Communication skills and sensitivity to the needs of the entire team including Landlord


Educational Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or similar program AND a minimum of 3 years of assistant superintendent experience OR
  • Minimum of 5 years of construction industry experience
