TRANSPORTATION COORDINATOR
Position Summary
The Transportation Coordinator will be responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of the student transportation services within SAU 16. This role includes ensuring safe, efficient, and reliable transportation for all students, coordinating bus routes, maintaining compliance with state and federal regulations and coordinating staffing with the contracted bus company. The ideal candidate will have strong organizational skills, excellent communication abilities, and a commitment to student safety.
Essential Functions
Develop and maintain efficient bus routes and schedules to ensure timely transportation of students.
Ensure all transportation operations comply with state and federal regulations, including safety and maintenance standards.
Collaborate with school administrators and parents to address transportation concerns and issues.
Manage the transportation budget, including monitoring expenses and identifying cost-saving opportunities.
Maintain accurate records of bus routes, schedules, maintenance, and compliance documentation.
Respond to emergencies and incidents involving school transportation, ensuring appropriate actions are taken.
Coordinate transportation for extracurricular activities, field trips, and special events.
Communicate effectively with school administrators, staff, parents, and students regarding transportation policies and procedures.
Stay informed about changes in transportation regulations and best practices in student transportation.
Collaborate with the contracted bus company to conduct regular inspections of buses and transportation equipment to ensure safety and reliability. Develop and implement safety protocols and training programs for transportation staff.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred.
Minimum of 3 years of experience in transportation management or a related field.
Knowledge of state and federal regulations related to student transportation.
Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to manage and lead a team effectively.
Proficiency in using transportation management software and systems.
Valid New Hampshire driver’s license; CDL with school bus endorsement preferred.
Ability to handle emergency situations calmly and efficiently.
