Responsibilities
Estimation
- Responsible and accountable for full implementation of the estimation process, documents, meetings, as per the process requirements
- Handles complex project estimate assignments
- Provides upper management with analysis data from estimating software
- Monitors sales team bid logs as well as maintaining estimation bid log information
- Oversees bid information is maintained in its proper file locations, creates estimation folders and files
- Lead, coach, evaluate and mentor the estimation team
- Interface with the Project Management and Project Controls to update the estimation system costs and defaults, participates in meetings to analyze project performance and update the estimating system accordingly.
- Reviews plans, specifications, drawings with sales team to get all the required information for developing estimates
- Review plans, specifications, drawings to determine the cost of the project
- Analyze time, material, and manpower requirements for each project
- Perform takeoffs and develop an estimate of cost to perform the work according to the specifications
- Provide Sales with a detailed cost estimate, corresponding proposal letter and bid summary documents as required
- Interface with vendors and subcontractors to determine the cost of the outsourced services and supplies, and acquire the best pricing
- Exercise significant independent discretion in developing project estimates and applying “markup” and “labor factors”, in association with the Project Management team.
- Attend pre-bid “Walk through” meetings as required
- Analyze special safety and code requirements on all projects and use that information to build more accurate estimates
- Other duties as assigned by Project Director
Reporting
- Attend the estimation group meetings and present to management the status of current bids and estimates
- Maintain and update the estimation log and other company documents with up to date and accurate information
- Provide accurate and timely ad-hoc reports and information as required by the Project Director
- Implement all other operations policies and directives as defined by the Project Director and VP of Operations
Technical skills & attributes required:
- Self-motivated, works well independently and possess strong communication and computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, Conest Software Systems and Sure Count Take off software, or similar Professional Electrical Estimating Software)
- Conduct bid reviews for each project to establish consistency, quality, and timeliness among the team as it pertains to estimates.
- Preparation of project bids, gathering proposals, blueprints, specifications, and related documents.
- Identifies labor, material, and time requirements by studying proposals, blueprints, and related documents.
- Computes costs by performing take-off, analyzing labor, material, and time requirements.
- Request material and equipment quotes from vendors and equipment suppliers.
- Identify and mitigate areas of risk for each project type.
- Perform cost analysis and manage all data analytics for the preconstruction department.
- Communicate, educate, and reinforce all company standards to estimate plans and specifications and design assist/build work.
