The Building Engineer is responsible for performing complex preventive maintenance and corrective repairs for facility systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and general building maintenance. The role requires heavy mechanical experience, the ability to oversee contracted work, and a strong understanding of building operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform complex preventive maintenance and corrective repair of buildings, industrial systems, vehicles, equipment, and grounds.
- Monitor building system operations and performance under limited supervision.
- Utilize trade skills such as carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting, roofing, heating, and cooling.
- Ensure compliance with applicable codes, regulations, governmental agency directives, and company policies related to building operations and work safety.
- Inspect building systems, including fire alarms, HVAC, and plumbing, to ensure proper operation.
- Oversee and inspect work performed by outside contractors, including landscaping, snow removal, remodeling, HVAC, plumbing, and janitorial services.
- Respond quickly to emergency situations, summoning additional assistance as needed.
- Maintain and repair the building lighting system, including element and ballast replacements.
- Perform welding, carpentry, furniture assembly, and locksmith tasks as needed.
- Maintain accurate maintenance and repair records, review work orders, and estimate time and materials needed.
- Order necessary materials and supplies for repairs and maintenance.
- May provide informal technical guidance and training to coworkers.
- May coordinate work and assign tasks.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
Education & Experience:
- High school diploma or GED required; trade school training preferred.
- Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience.
Certifications/Licenses:
- Universal CFC certification required.
- Universal EPA license preferred.
- Additional certifications in one or more of the following are a plus:
- Electrical
- Mechanical
- HVAC and refrigeration systems
- Process controls
- Mechanical power transmissions
- Painting
- Plumbing
- Carpentry
- Engine repair
- Certifications/licenses as required by local or state jurisdictions.
Technical Skills & Software Proficiency:
- Experience with building automation and computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Outlook.
- Familiarity with financial terms and principles.
- Ability to perform intermediate-level analytical problem-solving.
Required Skills:
- Heavy mechanical experience.
- Strong understanding of building operations, including:
- Chiller and boiler systems.
- HVAC systems.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience working in a pharmaceutical or life sciences facility.
- Strong HVAC expertise, particularly in critical environments (e.g., data centers, manufacturing facilities).
- Extensive experience with boiler systems.
Interview Process:

On-Call Responsibilities:
- Required after training is completed.

Pay: $26.00 - $38.00 per hour
