Dispatcher

Job Purpose:

A Dispatcher will be responsible for scheduling shipments and confirming appointments. They

will follow up on all loads for status updates on being loaded and delivered on time. Monitoring

freight movement and communication with carriers and drivers while in transit. Freight

dispatchers are responsible for covering freight with qualified carriers. Building a positive and

trusting relationship with customers and carriers is key to a freight dispatcher’s success.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Planning, scheduling, and covering of shipments.

Rating of potential orders upon occasion

Making outbound calls and sending emails to cover orders given to us by customers.

Answering inbound calls to help customers, carriers, shippers, and receivers with what is needed.

Building orders in the current TMS system ensuring proper information is entered for the transit

of the order and for billing the customer.

Getting updates on pickups prior to 10am for that day’s orders

Confirming deliveries with receivers on day of delivery

Communicating with customers, shippers, receivers, and carriers for shipment updates, and

monitoring transit progress.

Researching and selecting reputable and safe carriers through Go Highway, SAFER Stat,

FMCSA, and various other websites i.e., ITS carrier rating system

Keep track of shipments loading, delivering, and driver updates while in transit

Communicate delayed shipments or changing of carriers.

Provide after-hours phone support if needed.

Other projects and tasks assigned by supervisor.

Creating a positive environment with out of the box solutions and ideas to help Expedited

Logistics continue to grow.

Qualifications:

Education: HS Diploma or equivalent; bachelor's degree a plus

Experience: Prefer 1-year dispatching experience but not necessary

Communication: Must be able to read, write and speak English fluently; Spanish speaking is a

plus. Proven ability to communicate effectively and positively with customers, carriers,

shippers, receivers, and fellow employees.

Computer: Excellent computer skills; Microsoft Office & related spreadsheet and database

software

minimal supervision.

support.

● Ability to clearly identify the customer's current and future needs and present

transportation solutions to them.

Working conditions

The Freight Dispatcher will be working in an office environment.

Physical requirements

● Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

Direct reports

This position has no direct reports.

Shift

Monday - Friday 8:00 am - 5:00 pm, on call for any afterhours support when necessary
