Job Title: X-Ray Technician
General Summary: The X-Ray Technician assists in radiographic care for all patients, producing high-quality radiographs essential for diagnosing medical conditions. The role requires strict adherence to physicians' instructions and compliance with radiation safety regulations to minimize exposure risks. Responsibilities also include maintaining patient records and managing digital equipment.
Education:
- Minimum: Certificate in Radiologic Science from an accredited program by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT).
- Preferred: Registration in Radiologic Sciences, achieved through passing the ARRT-administered exam. Registered technicians must complete 24 hours of continuing education every two years to maintain certification.
Work Experience:
- Minimum: 0-2 years of experience operating digital radiographic equipment.
- Preferred: 2-4 years of experience with digital radiographic equipment.
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Worker Attributes:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficient in PC use.
Duties and Responsibilities:
A. X-Ray Procedures:
Start of Day:
- Warm up the x-ray tube (instructions provided near the console).
- Clean the x-ray table and bucky.
- Stock the rooms with necessary supplies (gowns, sheets, etc.).
- Empty the dirty linen basket if needed.
- Erase previous day’s films from the doctor's viewer.
- On Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, prepare x-rays for courier delivery to the Radiology Clinic for external review.
End of Day Duties:
- Ensure all charts in the x-ray box are reviewed before leaving.
- Turn off the console.
- Clean the x-ray table and bucky.

Saturday Night Shutdown:
- Shut down MPP computer and turn off the monitor.
- Power down the CR system (switch off the bottom and press the top power button).
- Shut down the CR computer and Dr.'s viewer system.

Other Tasks:
- Review images on the Dr.’s viewer from prior studies.
- Burn CDs for patients being referred or upon request.
B. Medical Office Support:
- Take vital signs, vision, and hearing tests.
- Verify prescription details match patient records.
- Prepare school and work excuses.
- Create accurate chart labels.
- Sort charts for nursing staff.
- Assist with patient discharge, including post-vaccine discharge.
- Ensure necessary pre-certifications for tests are obtained.
- Schedule patient appointments and contact the ER when necessary.
- File appointment logs.
C. Compliance and HIPAA:
- Maintain awareness of and follow the clinic's compliance and HIPAA policies to ensure proper procedures are observed.
D. Other Duties:
- Perform additional tasks as assigned.
Physical Demands:
- The role requires moderate physical effort and endurance, including extended periods of viewing CRT equipment.
- Occasional lifting and carrying of up to 20 pounds of x-ray equipment.
Accident or Health Hazards:
- While accidents are unlikely, there are potential health hazards due to the work environment.
Working Conditions:
- Prolonged periods of standing and sitting.
