This position will provide you with significant training to build your skills including on-the-job training and professional Emerson factory training to learn the top-of-the-line Emerson products we represent and the engineering services we provide. Training will include safety training modules, business unit training, PRV training and productivity training. You will learn valuable engineering specifications and build strong communication skills with customers. This position will offer the opportunity to occasionally work with other Emerson Impact Partners across the US. Most training will be done online but some will be in person. Experitec will provide 100% of tools needed to perform work in this position.

What does the Experitec Valve Technician do?
The Valve Technician is a part of our Valve Service Providers organization and is responsible for teardown, repair, new assembly, measurement of critical dimensions, utilizing manufacturer specs along with National Board Code, calibration and inspection while using precise instrumentation, cleaning/polishing with sandblaster or polishing tools, painting, and tag making. In addition, the position handles associated paperwork, and sign offs to keep compliant with National Board requirements pertaining to our Repair Report. Valve Technicians work to establish strong relationships with Experitec’s customers. This position will receive the opportunity to cross-train and learn Control Valve.
This position is part of our Mechanical Services team within the Valve Service Providers department with the specific title of Associate Valve Technician through PRV Technician II dependent on experience.
This position requires overtime to meet customer needs. Overtime is most common in the spring and October-December. Compensation will be paid for required travel and fieldwork. During busy times of the year when shifts extend beyond 8 hours per day overtime will be paid. Additional travel pay and onsite pay rate is available.

Required Skills, Experience & Abilities:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to acquire basic knowledge of valves, machining, welding, and/or fabrication.
- One or more years of hands-on experience working with mechanical troubleshooting.
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office and ability to work efficiently in business systems.
- Ability to clearly communicate status updates to supervisor, team and customers.
- Ability to collaborate with team to utilize suggestions and input for success.
- Ability to work onsite Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
- Ability to work frequent overtime as needed, with shifts extending beyond 8 hours to meet customer needs.
- Ability to work occasional evening shifts, up to 15% of weekends, and infrequent holidays, with the flexibility to travel via plane with little notice to meet customer needs.
- Ability to independently travel to customer sites located within our service territory and the territories of our Impact Partners (including both local and cross-country travel), a minimum of 25% of the time and increasing up to 60% during high volume periods to meet business needs, using a company vehicle or air travel.
- Ability to perform overnight stays with any non-local travel utilizing company per diem for meals/lodging.
- Ability to drive for the company with a valid driver’s license and the ability to pass driving record background check.
- Ability to use a company-owned pooled vehicle for the majority of work travel AND ability to rent a car when requested for work travel.
- Ability to lift and move up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to work in manufacturing and field environments with shifting and extreme temperatures for extended periods.
- Ability to work in elevated workspaces up to 30 feet.
- Ability to work in fluctuating noise levels.
- Ability to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) as appropriate for potential environmental hazards.
- Ability and willingness to perform constant physical activities including pushing, pulling, lifting, stretching, bending.
- Ability and willingness to work in a shop environment for 8 or more hours per day, primarily standing and sitting.
- Ability and willingness to work in a field environment for 8 or more hours per day, primarily standing and sitting.
Preferred Skills, Experience & Abilities:
- One or more years of experience working with Pressure Relief Valves (PRV).
- Track record of experience repairing and servicing valves.
- Experience demonstrating mechanical aptitude including analyzing, evaluating, diagnosing, and resolving equipment and process related problems.
- Experience utilizing precision instruments such as calipers and micrometers.
- Two or more years of machining experience.
- One or more years of experience in welding and/or fabrication.
- Mechanical related associate degree.
- Experience in the Process Control industry.
- Two or more years of experience in quality control.
- Proficient in machining.
- Experience using a lathe and/or mill.
- Track record of two or more years of experience in mechanical maintenance.
Opportunities to make an Impact:
The Valve Technician will make an impact through constructing and delivering solutions that meet customer expectations. Work will be conducted in shop environment with some field service as needed. This position will need to effectively communicate in varied settings while remaining productive and aligned with business goals.
- Operate available equipment in a safe and productive manner.
- Repair, clean, inspect, assemble and verify quality on new and used safety relief valves to National Board VR Code.
- Read and interpret manufacturers drawings and spring charts.
- Machine nozzles, discs and associated parts to OEM specifications.
- Perform measurements with dial calipers, micrometers, and dial indicators to verify critical dimensions.
- Perform valve write-ups including Nameplate data, Guide and nozzle ring settings, and spring number.
- Pressure and leak test valve to National Board and ASME standards.
- Perform other duties as required.
- Work closely with Procurement/Inventory/Operations to meet customer and production needs.
Work assignments include:
- Execute various inventory control responsibilities such as stocking shelves, pulling parts, cycle counting, and proper documentation of inventory transactions.
- Communicate with customers about technical assistance, troubleshooting, quoting, and disposition of repairs.
- Complete surface preparations and paint assemblies and parts.
- Evaluate products for final inspection and complete inspection report.
- Document dates on compliance sheets.
- Box and ship old and new parts, and crate and package parts when required.
- Participate in field service calls at customer sites as required (may require overnight stays from time-to-time).
