Job Summary: The Lead Class A Driver is responsible for overseeing daily delivery operations, ensuring compliance with DOT regulations, and providing guidance and support to the driving team. Minimum Qualification Requirements:
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience:
- Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with a clean driving record.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in commercial driving.
- Strong knowledge of DOT regulations and safety procedures.
- Familiarity with the Riverside and Los Angeles area.
- Prior leadership experience preferred.
- General repair and knowledge of vehicles.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift up to 60 lbs.
- Capability to sit, bend, climb, and walk as needed.
- If required, must be able to break down pallets of raw materials or finished goods.
- Ability to document records and procedures in writing.
Environmental Conditions:
- Exposure to cold storage environments (approximately 34°F).
- Driving in congested highways and freeways to ensure timely pickups and deliveries.
- Working in high-traffic dock areas.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Serve as the primary point of contact for delivery drivers, providing guidance and support.
- Perform daily pre-trip inspections of the tractor and trailer.
- Document and report any discrepancies to the Supervisor.
- Complete and submit the Daily Driver’s Log Vehicle Inspection and Driver’s Daily Checklist & Product Temperature Monitoring Procedure.
- Adhere to all company policies and safety procedures.
- Maintain the cleanliness of company vehicles.
- Ensure all drivers comply with company policies, DOT regulations, and safety standards.
- Provide training and mentorship to new drivers.
- Assist with route planning and dispatch coordination to ensure efficient deliveries.
- Communicate with Manager on any concerns and ideas for improving efficiency.
- Represent the company professionally by providing courteous service and practicing safe driving habits.
- Ensure all paperwork is accurately completed.
- Verify product type and quantity before signing the bill of lading.
- Report any damaged or refused product to the Supervisor immediately.
- Document and report any accidents or incidents to the Supervisor without delay.
- Ensure all deliveries and pickups are secured, including locking trailer doors.
- Communicate with the Supervisor regarding any changes, concerns, or issues while on the road.
Non-Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Coordinate with maintenance service providers for mechanical or refrigeration repairs.
- Maintain communication with customers during scheduled deliveries.
- Interact with CHP officials as required.
- Use Cat Scales to verify trailer weight for full loads, as needed.
- Utilize Truck Net truck stop for tractor and trailer washouts when necessary.
