Lead the estimating process : Oversee all aspects of the estimating process, from initial bid solicitation to final bid submission.
Develop and implement estimating procedures and best practices.
Mentor and guide junior estimators.
Prepare accurate estimates : Analyze project plans, specifications, and scope of work to develop accurate and competitive cost estimates.
Perform detailed quantity takeoffs for all trades (e.g., concrete, steel, carpentry, electrical, plumbing).
Research and analyze market conditions, material costs, and labor rates.
Identify and assess potential risks and develop mitigation strategies.
Subcontractor management : Solicit and evaluate bids from subcontractors.
Negotiate subcontracts and manage subcontractor relationships.
Conduct subcontractor pre-qualification and selection.
Proposal development : Prepare and submit professional and competitive bid proposals.
Present bid proposals to clients and answer any questions.
Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients.
Business development : Contribute to business development efforts by identifying and pursuing new project opportunities.
Cultivate and maintain relationships with architects, engineers, and other industry professionals.
Technology : Utilize estimating software (e.g., Procore, HCSS, Timberline) and other relevant technologies to improve efficiency and accuracy.
Stay abreast of the latest industry trends and technologies.
Experience you will need :
Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field preferred.
10 years of experience as a Senior Estimator or Chief Estimator in the commercial construction industry.
Proven track record of success in preparing accurate and competitive bids.
Extensive knowledge of construction materials, methods, and costs.
Proficiency in estimating software (e.g., Procore, HCSS, Timberline) and Microsoft Office Suite.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and negotiation skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Strong leadership and mentoring skills.
