Position Summary
The Reading Interventionist is responsible for supporting students in developing essential literacy skills. The Reading Interventionist will work closely with teachers, administrators, and families to provide targeted reading instruction, assess student progress, and implement research-based intervention strategies to improve student outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
Provide individualized and small-group reading instruction to students who require additional support in literacy development.
Use data-driven assessment tools to identify students in need of reading intervention and track their progress.
Develop and implement effective, research-based literacy intervention strategies tailored to students' needs.
Collaborate with classroom teachers to support literacy instruction and align interventions with the curriculum.
Monitor and document student progress, adjusting intervention plans as necessary to ensure success.
Communicate regularly with parents/guardians, providing updates on student progress and strategies for supporting literacy at home.
Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in literacy instruction and intervention.
Maintain accurate records and prepare reports on student progress as required.
Contribute to a positive and inclusive school culture that fosters a love of reading and learning.
Regularly use Google for calendaring, email communication, and accessing important documents
Requirements Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Experience working with elementary-aged students in a literacy-focused role.
Strong knowledge of evidence-based reading intervention strategies and phonics instruction.
Familiarity with assessment tools such as DIBELS, Fountas & Pinnell, or other literacy screening tools.
Commitment to educational equity and supporting diverse learners.
Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
Ability to use computer network systems and software applications as needed.
Ability to organize and coordinate work.
Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents/guardians.
Ability to engage in self-evaluation and self-reflection regarding performance and professional growth.
Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Education, Literacy, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
Certification
Valid NYS teaching certification in literacy or reading preferred.
Experience
Prior experience with high need students in an urban setting prioritized
Experience working with a culturally and ethnically diverse population is strongly desired.
