Overview:
The Residential Counselor provides essential support and care to teens living in a privately funded residential transition home. Assists with daily living activities, personal care, life skills training, and ensuring a safe and nurturing environment, while also providing emotional support, boundaries and positive role modeling. The Residential Counselor works as a member of a team to direct student care including home life, academics, recreation, summer-only activities, and school-related activities. The ideal candidate for this position is proactive, creative, communicative and willing to participate alongside teens in a variety of environments with positivity and full engagement. The ideal candidate has a history of demonstrating best judgment regarding the immediate physical health, safety, and welfare of students.
Key Responsibilities:
- Daily Living Activities: Helping with meal preparation, maintaining standards of cleanliness and hygiene, supervise study time, attend student off campus activities, teaching a variety of life skills, maintain daily schedule.
- Mentoring and Emotional Support: Providing a positive and supportive presence, engaging in activities, and fostering social interaction. Attend student activities.
- Safety and Well-being: Ensuring a safe environment, monitoring student health and well-being, and reporting any concerns.
- Facility Support: Assist students in maintaining a clean and organized living space, appropriate outdoor chores, assisting students with small animal care and reporting any needs.
- Transportation: Assisting with transportation to appointments, social activities, and other outings.
- Communication: Maintaining open communication with students, families, providers, school personnel and other staff members.
- Documentation: Monitor progress of students through interactions, team meetings and shift notes.
- Personal Care: Teaching personal care skills as needed.
- Positive Role-Modeling: Modeling positive and healthy skills for addressing the needs of every day life situations.
Shift:
Due to the 24-hour needs of our students, rotating shifts include days and evenings, and/or weekends.
Additional Shift Information:
Occasional regional overnight travel.
Work Experience Requirements:
Minimum of 1 year working direct care with pre-teens, teens or young adults.
Willingness to have fun, be flexible and assume professional, yet nurturing, relationships with students.
Work Experience Preferred:
Bachelor's degree in education, outdoor recreation, social work of similar field. Experience with vocational or life skills training, outdoor recreation and/or household management, animal husbandry, or home improvement a plus.
Requirements Prior to Hire:
Fingerprint background check required prior to employment.
Required Trainings:
First Aid, CPR, AED, and best practices training required and offered at placement.

Summary
As a Residential Counselor, you will provide essential support and care to teens in a home and community setting, focusing on personal growth, community interface, life skills training and improving personal well-being. Reporting to the Program Director, your core responsibilities will include assisting with activities of daily living, ensuring resident safety, teaching life skills, and promoting independence. Establishing boundaries within an atmosphere of care, will be vital in creating a nurturing environment. Any additional relevant skills in meal preparation, teaching, outdoor recreation, animal husbandry, and/or maintenance will augment the quality of life for residents, by adding any of these life skills to our students' proficiencies. Residential Counselors have a willingness to work alongside students in a positive mentoring role while making a meaningful impact on their daily experiences.

Pay: $15.00 - $30.00 per hour
