Position: Assistant Instructor
Reports To: Program Director
Compensation: $14 / Hour
Duration: June, July & August (25 – 40 Hours / Week)
About Us
ExplorationWorks is a hands-on science center located in the Great Norther Town Center in Helena. Founded in 2000, our mission is to ignite a lifelong love for science to enrich Montana’s future. We inspire kids and their families to discover, explore, and learn together through inquiry-based science education. Each year over 40,000 visitors of all ages come to ExplorationWorks to experience our many exhibits, programs, camps, and classes. STEM programs happen in our museum and schools, as well as public libraries and community events. Our staff consists of 16 regular employees, as well as 20 – 30 seasonal staff. We are proud to offer a fun, educational, and positive place to work.
Position Overview
The successful applicant will assist instructors in delivering informal science lessons during summer camps while caretaking the participants.
Job Description
Your responsibilities will include (but are not limited) to the following:
- Assist in delivering educational programming during summer camps for children ages 4 - 13.
- Ensure the physical safety and emotional wellbeing of campers.
- Assist Instructors in facilitating an informal classroom with minimal supervision.
- Keep classroom and program areas in excellent working condition through responsible care.
- Collaborate with co-workers through email, phone, text, and in person.
- Maintain a high level of energy and enthusiasm regardless of the situation.
- Always model acceptable behavior through a professional demeanor.
- Develop science literacy to teach hands-on lessons and engage in scientific discussion.
- Assistant in monitoring camper behavior while anticipating and preventing problems.
- Record incident reports and share serious situations with the Instructor.
- Other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Clear Federal Background Check
- Minimum 16 Years of Age (by June 1, 2025)
- Ability to Lift and Carry up to 30 lbs.
- Reliable Transportation
- Attend Staff Training Sessions on June 11 & 12 (9 am – 4 pm)
- First Aid & CPR (or willingness to acquire it with the cost covered by ExplorationWorks)
