Peer Support Specialist
Position Type: 32 hours per week
Compensation: $22 per hour

EXPO (Ex-Incarcerated People Organizing) is a grassroots organization led by formerly incarcerated people working to end mass incarceration and restore the rights and dignity of justice-impacted individuals. Our mission is to empower our community through advocacy, peer support, leadership development, and direct services.
Position Overview
The Peer Support Specialist will provide mentorship, guidance, and support to individuals impacted by the criminal legal system, helping them navigate reentry challenges, access resources, and build sustainable lives. The ideal candidate will have lived experience with incarceration, probation, or parole and be committed to empowering others through peer-led support.
Key Responsibilities
• Provide one-on-one peer support to individuals transitioning from incarceration, ensuring they have access to housing, employment, healthcare, and other critical resources.
• Facilitate peer support groups focused on reentry, mental health, substance use recovery, and personal development.
• Assist individuals in developing action plans for their personal and professional goals, offering encouragement and accountability.
• Connect individuals with community resources such as housing programs, workforce development, educational opportunities, and healthcare services.
• Advocate for systemic change by sharing lived experiences and engaging in EXPO’s policy and organizing efforts.
• Maintain accurate records and documentation in accordance with grant requirements and organizational policies.
• Collaborate with EXPO team members and external partners to ensure holistic and effective support for individuals.
Qualifications
• Lived experience with incarceration, probation, or parole is preferred.
• Certification as a Peer Support Specialist (or willingness to obtain certification) is required.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build trust and rapport with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
• Experience facilitating peer support groups or mentoring others.
• Knowledge of reentry challenges and available community resources.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Commitment to EXPO’s mission and values, including justice, equity, and empowerment.
• Basic computer skills for documentation and communication purposes.
