What are the responsibilities and job description for the Construction Estimator position at Express Employment Professionals Tysons, VA?
A national commercial construction contractor headquartered in Kensington, Maryland, is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Commercial Construction Estimator to join their team. This position will be based out of their Manassas, VA office. This is a direct-hire opportunity.
The job of the Estimator is essential to the success of the projects within the division and the company. This position will be responsible for all aspects of a project from invitation to bid through award and hand-off to Project Managers.
Responsibilities
- Keep abreast of the market and actively seek out new opportunities with the goal of getting invited to bid on projects.
- Manage takeoffs and bids for all new projects (Assign takeoffs based on established priority, Takeoffs should be complete per the plans and scope, Create estimates for the job in our estimating software, Generate bids for projects in collaboration with PMs, SVP and Principals)
- Work with suppliers and Director of Purchasing to get accurate pricing for: specialty products, new products, specialty systems, get pricing for any subcontracted scope
- Review with the Project Manager and submit bids to General Contractors on or before due dates (Create Bids on company software, Capture all scope items, Complete scope sheets sent with RFP from the GCs, Clarify all inclusions, exclusions and alternates)
- Follow-up on bids submitted (Track all submitted bids and follow up regularly with GCs, Answer any come-back questions from GCs, Provide break-outs and clarifications as requested, Submit any BAFOs requested – update on bid tracker to not miss deadlines, Attend scope reviews and interviews)
- Clean-up bid takeoff once job is awarded (Adjust for any bulletins, revisions, scope clarifications or other changes, Go through takeoff to ensure all items are captured, Clean up any areas where material may have been entered to “cover” costs during the bid and change those items to actual material on the job, Add cost for any negotiated items such as clean-up crew, patch and repair, overtime, safety officer, parking shuttles, etc.)
- Generate accurate job material lists to be used for the job (Include material specified on the job, Include all drywall accessories, Include all specialty connectors, Include fastener schedule and quote, Include allowance for misc material, Send material list to suppliers for bid if not already done during the bid phase)
- Get the job ready to hand-off to Project Manager
- Schedule and conduct pre-start hand-off meeting with PM
- Work with PM on any bulletin updates and large changes that come up after the job-handoff
Other Duties
- Business development and relationship building with GCs, Suppliers and Owners
- Attend meetings at jobs if PM needs clarification on how a job was envisioned on paper during the takeoff
- Work with PMs to get product information for submittals, LEED information, engineering and logistics
Qualifications
- 2 Years Experience as a Commercial Construction Estimator
- Experience with Data Center Construction Strongly Preferred
