Road & Street Maintenance Worker

Location : Madras, OR

Position : Part-Time, Seasonal

Pay : $18.00

Summary :

The Seasonal Street Worker assists in the maintenance, repair, and improvement of public roadways, streets, sidewalks, and related infrastructure. This temporary position is essential for supporting the street maintenance team during busy seasons, such as winter (snow removal) or summer (roadwork and repairs).

Essential Functions :

Road and Street Maintenance : assist in repairing potholes, cracks, and damaged pavement. Perform street cleaning duties, including the removal of debris, litter, and leaves from roads and sidewalks.
Snow and Ice Removal (Winter Season) : operate snowplows, salt spreaders, and other winter equipment to clear roads of snow and ice. Shovel or use snow removal equipment to clear sidewalks and public walkways.
Construction and Repair : assist in minor construction projects such as curb repairs, patching, or laying asphalt. Assist in the installation and maintenance of street signs, traffic signals, and road markings.
Traffic Control : set up and manage traffic control devices, including barricades, cones, and signs, to ensure safety in construction zones. Direct traffic as necessary to prevent accidents or congestion.
General Labor : perform manual labor such as lifting, digging, and carrying materials. Assist with the loading and unloading of materials and equipment.
Equipment Operation and Maintenance : operate and maintain tools and vehicles used in street maintenance (e.g., backhoes, trucks, and road repair equipment). Perform basic maintenance and cleaning of vehicles and tools.

Skills & Knowledge :

Physical Stamina : Ability to perform physical tasks such as lifting, bending, and standing for long periods.

Experience with Tools and Equipment : Familiarity with street maintenance equipment (e.g., snowplows, trucks, jackhammers, etc.).

Safety Awareness : Understanding of safety protocols and regulations to ensure personal and public safety.

Good Communication Skills : Ability to work as part of a team and follow instructions.

Availability : Flexible to work evenings, weekends, or during emergencies (e.g., snowstorms).

Driving License : A valid driver's license may be required, especially for operating certain vehicles.

High School Diploma or Equivalent

Prior Experience in street maintenance or manual labor is a plus but not required.

Preferred :

Requires valid Oregon driver's license.

Class A or B CDL preferred.

Environment :

Work is generally performed in an office setting with occasional work in the outdoors.

Must be able to work indoors and outdoors, including extreme weather conditions.

Physical Requirements :

Work is usually outdoors, sometimes in extreme weather conditions.

Requires the ability to stand, walk, and manipulate (lift, carry, move) light to medium weights of up to 50 pounds on a frequent basis; pushing, pulling, guiding over 50 pounds on an occasional basis.

Stoops, kneels, and crouches on a regular basis.

Requires the ability to perform full arm extension and movement out and overhead, and to talk and hear.

Requires sufficient hand-eye coordination, hand and finger dexterity including ability to grasp, and visual acuity to operate equipment and read technical and safety information.
