Ravenscroft is an independent, coeducational day school in Raleigh, NC, with approximately 1,250 students in grades PreK-12.
We are actively looking to welcome a Middle/Upper School Latin & Spanish teacher to join our community of educators who actively strives to be diverse, equitable and inclusive. Reports to: Head of Upper School
The successful candidate will be an educator who displays passion for teaching Latin and Spanish. The teacher’s lessons are student-centered and infused with both theory and practice, and they skillfully incorporate technology and creativity. Other responsibilities and competencies include:
- Teaching three to four sections of Latin courses in both Middle School and Upper School, depending on the enrollment
- Teaching one or two sections of Upper School Spanish
- Demonstrating a passion for the Spanish language and culture and the Latin language and ancient cultures
- Demonstrating cultural competence and the ability to connect with a diverse community of students, faculty, staff, and parents
- Exhibiting excellent teaching skills that demonstrate best practice according to ACTFL proficiency standards
- Designing and delivering lessons that are supportive of Ravenscroft’s mission to “nurture individual potential and prepare students to thrive in a complex and interdependent world”
- Advising roughly 12 students and facilitating the integration of our "Lead from Here" curriculum
- Understanding the development of both Middle and Upper School students and displaying a passion for working with this age group
- Connecting with students, challenging them, and shifting pedagogical practice to meet the needs of diverse learners
- Teaching 90% in the Target Language in the Spanish classroom
- Utilizing online tools such as Edpuzzle, Quizlet, Quizizz, PearDeck, etc.
- Demonstrating effective technology skills, including the ability to use Ravenscroft’s learning management systems (Canvas and Veracross)
- Writing bi-weekly updates for students with accommodations
- Participating in other aspects of the School community as desired by the candidate (i.e., athletics, committees, etc.). The ability and willingness to coach a sport is strongly desired.
- Experience supporting social emotional learning inside and outside of the classroom; an eagerness and ability to support our Lead From Here curriculum
- Demonstrating a growth mindset and the ability to receive feedback, adapt to different learners’ needs, and become a valued colleague in a strong and cohesive World Language department
Qualifying Characteristics:

Education and Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Spanish and/or Classical Languages; MA or MEd highly desirable
- Previous teaching experience and experience developing and teaching a proficiency-based curriculum preferred
- Minimum Advanced Low Oral Proficiency in Spanish (ACTFL standards)
