Position Overview
Under the direct supervision of the Health & Nutrition Coordinator (HNC), the Early Education School Nurse ensures the timely and effective delivery and documentation of health-related services to Para Los Niños EHS/HS children and families. The nurse will be expected to collaborate with outside health professionals to establish partnerships that can support children and families to receive all necessary medical and dental services and documentation.
Duties
Ensure compliance with Head Start/Early Head Start (HS/EHS) health and safety regulations, LACOE GIMS, and California Community Care Licensing Division (CCLD) standards.
Implement childcare health and safety guidelines, conduct quarterly classroom monitoring, and ensure corrective actions.
Review and maintain child health records in ChildPlus (CP), track immunizations, and complete health referrals.
Develop individualized health plans (IHPs) with providers and parents. Monitor medication administration, conduct TB risk assessments, and support vision/hearing screenings.
Prepare LACOE Monthly Health Status Reports and update ChildPlus with critical health changes.
Support families in following Bright Futures/AAP health schedules.
Communicate health needs to staff and assist in developing IHPs.
Follow up on medical concerns and absences, interpret doctor’s orders, and link families to healthcare services.
Assist in preparing the annual Health Services Action Plan and facilitate parent education.
Provide health-related training to staff, including vision & hearing equipment use and medication administration.
Deliver mandated pre-service health trainings and ongoing staff education.
Participates in continuing education activities when applicable for maintaining a license or certificate.
Carries out Head Start/Early Head Start Performance Standards, requirements of the Head Start/Early Head Start Act, and the requirements of the LACOE contract.
Attends/participates in: 1) Professional Development Activities, 2) Supervision, and 3) Individualized Professional Development Goals/Activities.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics
Understanding of and ability to use technology such at Learning Genie and other agency required programs.
Must have a reliable automobile for use on the job (mileage to be reimbursed). Valid California Driver License. State required automobile insurance coverage.
Has knowledge of health and safety mandates in the Head Start/Early Head Start Act (EHS/HS) and Performance Standards.
Has knowledge of health and safety-related California Community Care Licensing Division (CCLD) regulations.
Qualifications for Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN)
Graduate from a California-approved vocational nursing program, have military education and experience equivalent to a LVN training program, or have at least 51 months of paid bedside nursing experience under an RN, Physician, or another qualified professional.
Pass the National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nurses (NCLEX-PN).
Current unrestricted Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) license issued by the California Board of Vocational Nursing and Psychiatric Technicians (BVNPT) required.
Minimum two years' experience in health services (administering or providing direct service), preferably in pediatrics.

Travel Requirements: Up to 75% to Para Los Ninos Early Education Centers.
Compensation: $24.79 - $32.69/hour
Qualifications for Registered Nurse (RN)
Graduate of an accredited Nursing program required, a Bachelor's Degree is preferred.
Current unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license issued by California Board of Registered Nursing (BRN) required.
Minimum two years' experience in health services (administering or providing direct service), preferably in pediatrics.

Travel Requirements: Up to 75% to Para Los Ninos Early Education Centers.
Compensation: $69,638 - $90,561 annually.
