Role Description
Extra USA, LP is a growing business and is seeking a full-time, on-site, Lead Aircraft Mechanic for our shop located in Port Orange, FL. The Lead Aircraft Mechanic will be responsible for overseeing aircraft assembly, maintenance and repairs, conducting inspections, troubleshooting aircraft systems, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations. This role will play a key part in the continued expansion of the company in the US market. This role also has the potential for travel in support of our customers and their aircraft.
Company Description
The Extra Aircraft company was established in 1980 as Extra Flugzeugbau in Germany by Walter Extra, an aerobatic pilot, to design and develop his own aerobatic aircraft. The company is located at Dinslaken airfield in Hünxe, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. Today, that initiative has become the championship-based EXTRA aircraft line-up, including the aerobatic EA-200, EA-300L, EA-300LP, EA-330LT, EA330LC, EA330LX and EA-330SC aircraft. Each design masterfully blending performance and economy with the pure joy of flying.
In 2022, Extra Aircraft elected to open a dedicated service and sales center in the USA, located in Deland Florida. Extra Aircraft USA, LP provides sales, aviation maintenance services and parts for the North American Market.
Working Conditions:
All work is conducted in an aircraft hangar at KDED
Hangar is located in Central Florida; temperatures may exceed 90 degrees during summer months.
Qualifications/Experience
- Assist in the maintenance, repair, and inspection of aircraft and aircraft components under the direction of our Lead A&P Mechanic.
- Maintain a clean and organized maintenance shop, ensuring all tools, equipment, and materials are properly stored and accounted for.
- Support mechanics in assembling, disassembling, and repairing aircraft systems and components.
- Help with routine maintenance tasks, including but not limited to oil changes, tire checks, and system inspections.
- Help prepare and handle maintenance documentation, ensuring compliance with industry regulations.
- Conduct aircraft preparation for customer delivery.
- Follow all safety protocols and guidelines to ensure a safe working environment.
- Communicate effectively with the maintenance team, providing updates on progress and identifying potential issues or improvements.
- Assist in the preparation and management of parts inventory, including ordering and receiving parts as necessary.
General Required Skills and Job Functions:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Prior experience in an aviation or maintenance environment is a plus but not required.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and interest in aircraft maintenance.
- Ability to work efficiently both independently and as part of a team.
- Good communication skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to lift and move equipment and materials and perform physically demanding tasks.
- Knowledge of aviation safety practices and regulations is a plus.
- Must be willing to work flexible hours, including weekends if needed.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities
- Ability to work collaboratively with international teams
- Be able to lift equipment and materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Be able to climb ladders, apply finger and hand dexterity in using hand tools, be able to move around the shop/hangar area and within aircraft continuously throughout the workday.
