Overview
The Production Planner will create and maintain production schedules for all manufactured products to ensure organizational goals and customer delivery deadlines are met. This role requires close coordination with Sales, Engineering, Manufacturing, Purchasing, and Quality teams to balance customer demands, operational constraints, and resource availability. Key responsibilities include daily monitoring of customer orders, delivery change requests, equipment performance, workforce capabilities, and inventory levels to develop actionable and efficient production schedules. Reporting to the Production Manager, this position involves collaboration across all levels of the organization.
Responsibilities
- Leverage ERP systems to develop, manage, and adjust production schedules for all manufactured products.
- Process customer orders and delivery change requests, updating schedules promptly as needed.
- Communicate recovery options effectively when unforeseen challenges arise.
- Partner with Manufacturing Supervisors to realign schedules in response to equipment failures, quality issues, material shortages, or workforce constraints.
- Collaborate with Engineering to integrate new products into manufacturing schedules.
- Notify Sales of potential delivery delays and provide revised recovery timelines.
- Monitor finished goods inventory levels to prevent material shortages.
- Resolve ERP transaction errors impacting the production schedule, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Identify and implement schedule management improvements to optimize manufacturing processes.
Required Skills and Experience
- In-depth understanding of production processes and workforce capabilities.
- Proficiency with ERP systems and scheduling tools.
- Strong multitasking skills and the ability to respond swiftly to production challenges.
- Ability to interact professionally and effectively with all levels of the organization
- Critical thinking and problem-solving abilities, with the confidence to make rapid decisions under pressure.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred Skills and Experience
- 5- 7 years of experience as a Production Planner in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience using ERP software – preferably Epicor or Sage.
