This position will be located in Houston, TX and will manage a day-to-day commercial business, including, but not limited to the following: acting as VLCC Book Lead, designing and implementing strategies that maximize earnings and reduce costs, and integrating with ExxonMobil’s Crude Trading organization to provide market insights and forecast freight costs. The VLCC Freight Trader will report to and take direction from the US Freight Trading Manager within SeaRiver’s Freight Trading Organization. SeaRiver Maritime, Inc, is a wholly owned subsidiary of ExxonMobil Corporation.

What role would you play within our team.
The VLCC Freight Trader in SeaRiver Maritime, Inc., has overall responsibility of developing and executing freight strategies that maximize the value generated on behalf of the Freight Trading portfolio. Further, the VLCC Freight Trader will be required to in-charter vessels to ensure safe, cost effective and reliable transport of crude cargoes around the globe.
The VLCC Freight Trader will act as a key interface in offering trading and hedging solutions in addition to interacting constantly with our Freight Operations and Analytics teams in evaluation of opportunities and portfolio risk.
The key deliverables include:
Developing commercial strategies for in and out-chartering VLCC’s- Seeking out and developing value accretive opportunities within both the paper (FFA) and physical Freight Trading space
- Optimizing the utilization of SeaRiver’s time chartered portfolio of vessels to maximize earnings
- Leveraging your knowledge, experience and contacts to support the development of SeaRivers Freight Trading organization
- Advising ExxonMobils Trading teams on how to utilize Freight Trading strategies to gain competitive advantages and create value
- Providing insights to the Analytics team to continuously improve forecasts and decision making
- Ensuring all Freight Trading activities are in compliance with internal risk governance policies/procedures, and are accurately captured in reporting infrastructure
Who are we looking for.
To be eligible for this role, you must:
Be educated to Degree level (or equivalent) in a numeric discipline e.g. Engineering, Science, Economics, Finance, Mathematics or Statistics (or have relevant work experience, underpinned by strong P&L performance)- Have previous Freight Trading experience, focused predominantly on evaluating, optimizing and trading physical and paper freight in global markets
- Have a demonstrable track record in the freight market including new opportunity development
- Be able to demonstrate the ability to establish broker / asset contacts to generate new business opportunities
- Possess an expert level understanding of risk management principles and tools
- Possess a deep understanding of the markets various Time and Spot Charter contracts
- Ability to assist Freight Operations Team in influencing operational costs to maximize TCE performance
- Have strong commercial acumen, an entrepreneurial mind-set, strong analytical skills, and take accountability for your results and contributions to the team
- Possess a broad range of personal effectiveness and leadership skills, with the ability to facilitate and influence business decisions in a multi-cultural team environment
- Have fluent English language skills (written and spoken)
