Scientist/Senior Scientist, Formulation Development

Eyconis is seeking an exceptional Formulation Scientist/Sr. Scientist to join our team and take a key role in formulation development activities.

The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge of protein formulation development and the ability to apply modern formulation techniques and concepts to deliver drug product prototypes of complex-format molecules. This role will involve designing and executing in-house experiments to identify and characterize phase-appropriate formulations for intravitreal injections. The successful candidate will play a critical role in collaborating with cross-functional teams, including Development Chemistry, Process Development, Non-clinical, and Clinical, to support the advancement of Eyconis' pipeline.

Key responsibilities

• Design and conduct pre-formulation studies, including physicochemical characterization and preliminary stability assessments, to support lead candidate identification.
• Design and execute formulation studies for intermediate products, drug substances (DS), and drug products (DP) to identify appropriate formulation recipes and processes, and determine product stability.
• Develop lab-scale processes for preparing dose formulations to support non-clinical animal studies.
• Design and identify drug product prototypes, including the primary container closure system for long term product storage, and syringe/needle configurations for dosing.
• Apply biophysical characterization techniques to characterize product-matrix interactions.
• Coordinate with management and relevant teams to secure necessary support and align plans with organizational priorities.
• Represent the Analytics and Formulation group as the formulation lead in cross-functional CMC teams.
• Perform analytical characterization of prepared formulations as needed, and collaborate with analytical development to evaluate and implement new methods.
• Analyze data from multiple sources, propose formulation study conclusions, and recommend follow-up actions. Communicate findings clearly and concisely.
• Execute assignments with minimal supervision, prioritize deliverables effectively, and coordinate activities across internal and external teams while meeting timelines.
• Stay updated with the scientific literature, leverage existing knowledge, and remain mindful of intellectual property considerations.

Successful candidates Will Meet Most of these Knowledge, Skills and Experience Criteria:

• PhD in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, Pharmaceutical Science, or related field with 2 years of relevant experience for Scientist level and 5 years for Sr. Scientist level. B.S. or M.S. with 5 years of relevant experience and proven achievement in formulation development will also be considered.
• Experience and knowledge of strategies in pharmaceutical development and sterile drug product manufacturing is required.
• Experience with ophthalmology product development for intravitreal injection is preferred.
• Hands on experience with analytical techniques (pH, Viscometer, DSC, MFI, HPLC, DLS, UV, TurbiScan, etc.) is required.
• Working knowledge of cGMPs, ICH guidelines, regulatory and quality requirements is preferred.
• Excellent organizational skills and ability to work effectively under tight timelines.
• Effective team player with an open mindset and excellent oral/written communication skills.
• Proven scientific track record and creative approach to problem-solving.

Expected Salary Range and Benefits summary

• The base pay range for this position is expected to be $125,000 - $160, 000 annually.
• Base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, capabilities, and experience.
