Ophthalmic Technician, Pay Range: $16-$20 based on relevant experience

DEPARTMENT: Clinic
REPORTS TO: Clinic Operations Director, Physician
JOB SUMMARY
Provide accurate documentation in the patient chart. Assists in maintaining efficient patient flow. Provides a variety of patient care activities to assist the physician and medical office personnel.
DUTIES
Primary:
Escorts the patient to an examination room and performs the initial portion of the exam. This includes, but is not limited to: Visual acuity, field and muscle testing, pupil testing, refractions, lensometry, pressure check, patient history and chief complaint.
Accurately maintain the patient chart. This may include, but is not limited to: proper scanning of documents into the appropriate electronic medical record category.
Become fluent in the exact requirements of each exam and use the industry recognized standard of ophthalmic abbreviations.
Demonstrates the ability to work with patients of all ages.
Answers patient questions in exam room. Act as a liaison between physician and patient.
Provide educational information to the patient regarding treatment plans prescribed by physician.
Perform diagnostic testing when appropriate. This includes, but is not limited to IOL Master, topography, OCT (MAC and ON).
Secondary:
When applicable, provide accurate spectacle prescription or medication prescription prior to the completion of the exam. When needed, appropriate pharmacy selected for medication prescriptions.
Alerts physician to patient's needs, including but not limited to patient forms that need to be completed.
Provide information/ informs the patient about follow up appointments as indicated.
Recognizes patient flow and ensures exam rooms have adequate supplies.
Escorts patient to the appropriate area. This includes, but is not limited to physician lanes, check out, surgery scheduling, optical and contact lens departments.
Witness consent forms.
Perform other duties, tasks and responsibilities assigned by management.
Position Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS:
High School Diploma
Fluent in English
Basic understanding of algebraic principles
One-year experience in a medical office
Computer literacy, especially the ability to type in a dimly lit room
Excellent verbal and written communication
Strong attention to detail and the ability to multi-task
Experience maintaining patient confidentiality
Must be able to stand or walk for up to 8 hours a day
