We are a single office, medical and surgery Eye Care practice looking for a team player for the long haul.

We are looking for a professional, reliable, patient-focused candidate that is willing to have a broad focus in the office assisting in both back office and front office duties.

Good phlebotomy skills are required for this position.

Back office skills needed / to acquire include:

  • Working on your feet for up to 8 to 9 hours per day
  • Obtaining a detailed medical history and documenting while listening to patients
  • Obtaining clinical measurements from patients using state-of-the-art ophthalmic computerized equipment (OCT, Humphrey visual field, auto-refractor, lensometer, tonopen, pachymetry, and others)
  • Photography of the structures of the eye
  • Venapuncture (required)
  • Comfort with instilling eye drops (after verifying allergies)
  • Assisting the doctor as a scribe to accurately record visit elements

Front office tasks include (as the need arises) includes:

  • The patient check-in / check-out process
  • Handling the check-in process for patients (sign-in, insurance verification, copay verification and collection, status patients ready to be seen, etc)
  • Verifying insurance eligibility (mostly automated through our PM)
  • Collecting copays and patient balances
  • Scheduling and changing appointments
  • Running short term and long term patient recall lists
  • Calling patients to verify appointments
  • Handling a multiline phone system and documenting all clinical conversations on-the-fly while managing patient flow
  • Clerical duties including scanning documents
  • Performing intermediary tasks with our billing service
  • Routing incoming faxes
  • Beginning of the day office preparation and end of the day office clean-up

On-the-job training will be provided as needed for the right candidate who demonstrates commitment to the job and team.

We are a 100% electronic medical record office so strong typing skills and average to good computer skills are expected.

Applying candidates must be able to pass a drug and background screen, per Maryland law, prior to hire and pass future random screens during employment.

The current need is for 4 to 5 clinic days per work week only which is approximately 64 to 72 scheduled hours per 2 week pay period. Work hours are 9am to 5pm with the need to stay later than 5pm depending on patient needs on any day of clinic.

Every other Monday and Wednesday is off so there are 2 to 3 scheduled 3-day weekends per month. Work on non-clinic days is available for an increase in hours based on need and seniority.

Starting salary range based on experience in the eye care field. Where applicable, as your experience in the office increases, pay raises commensurate to progress in learning the system will occur on a regular basis.

Benefits include paid vacation days (which can be applied as sick leave) and IRA retirement contributions with employer match.

At this time there are no formal medical or dental health benefits.

This is the only office so there is no satellite travel.

There are no virtual elements to this position. Due to the nature of working in eye care, you will be working in close proximity to patients and staff.
