Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Optometric Technician to join our team. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in providing exceptional patient care in a clinical setting. This position requires a blend of technical skills and interpersonal abilities, as you will assist optometrists in delivering comprehensive eye care services. You will be responsible for conducting preliminary tests, maintaining equipment, and ensuring a smooth patient experience.
Responsibilities
- Open and close exam rooms daily.
- Assist optometrists during eye examinations by preparing patients and explaining procedures.
- Conduct preliminary tests, including measuring visual acuity, taking vital signs, and performing basic ocular assessments.
- Maintain and calibrate optical equipment to ensure accurate results.
- Record patient history and data accurately in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Provide guidance to patients regarding eyewear options, including contacts.
- Support retail sales by promoting optical products and services available in the clinic.
- Learning contact lenses ordering, rebates and year supply costs.
- Educate patients on proper contact lens care and usage.
- Ensure the clinic is clean, organized, and well-stocked with necessary supplies.
- Have a proper phone etiquette when helping front desk answer phones.
- Manage time in an organized yet efficient way while pretesting.
- Learning DFE drops and how to properly administer.
- Being able to stoop, bend, twist, reach and stand on their feet for extended periods of time.
Requirements
- Previous experience in a medical office or clinic setting is preferred.
- Knowledge of anatomy and physiology related to the eye is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with ophthalmology practices and optical products is a plus.
- Strong understanding of HIPAA regulations to maintain patient confidentiality.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with patients of all ages.
- Retail sales experience is beneficial for assisting customers in selecting eyewear options.
- Ability to work well in a team-oriented environment while communicating with other staff and managing multiple tasks efficiently.
