Job description/Special Testing Technician
SUMMARY
The Special Testing Technician is responsible for providing the highest quality optometric patient care possible. The Special Testing Technician performs patient histories, completes ophthalmic testing and consistently provides superior customer service for the patients. The Special Testing Technician ensures the proper utilization of time and movement of the patient throughout the patient visit and completes all diagnostic testing as requested by the clinical supervisor.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or GED required
- Bachelor's degree or associate Degree in a related field preferred
- Two years of ophthalmology experience preferred

- Proficient computer skills
- Detail oriented
- Obtain a complete hands-on working knowledge of applicable computer software
- Ability to problem solve
- Excellent communication skills, proper grammar and writing capability

- Obtain a complete knowledge of all forms that are used in the practice
- Gain an understanding of the anatomy & physiology of the eye

- Ability to appropriately prioritize patient testing
- Obtain a complete working knowledge of all ophthalmic terminology, spelling and pronunciation
- Ability to understand CPT and ICD-9/10 Codes for ophthalmic billing
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Perform testing as requested by the ordering doctor- Visual Fields, OCTs, Pachymetry, Fundus Photos, External Photos, etc.
2. Obtain eyeglass prescriptions via lensometer
3. Communicate physician instructions to patients accurately and effectively and documents accordingly
4. Assist the physician with pharmacy calls, patient calls, etc.
5. Ensure the scheduling template is being followed correctly
6. Ensure all special testing rooms are clean and well-stocked at the end of each day
7. Ensure all equipment is turned off and covered properly at the end of day
8. Complete tech station duties as assigned on a daily basis
9. Process e-scripts as requested
10. Professional and Personal Development/Goals and Objectives
a. Exhibit professional demeanor with a positive attitude at all times when representing the practice
b. Maintain certification, where applicable, while continuing to improve skills. Must attend in-services and webinar training as directed by the Clinical Supervisor
c. Set goals and objectives for professional growth. Review and revise goals on an ongoing basis
d. Provide input on how to improve customer service, decrease costs and increase revenues for the practice
11. Customer Service
a. Support the practice core values and mission statement to develop, enhance and promote quality customer service through team effort
b. Exhibit flexibility, sensitivity and respect while maintaining an effective working relationship with all team members
12. Maintain practice confidentiality, follow HIPAA/OSHA guidelines and the rules and regulations of the practice as documented
13. Complete any additional tasks and responsibilities as noted
14. Maintain proper work-up standards of productivity as defined by physician requirements and patient diagnosis
15. Prepare and sends all non-compliance letters, per protocol
16. Assume other duties as assigned

- The majority of the time on-the-job is spent walking and sitting
- At times the job may require weight to be lifted up to 50 pounds
