Surgery Scheduler

Position Overview

We are seeking a Surgery Scheduler to work closely with our registered nurses and ophthalmologists to coordinate surgical procedures and testing for patients. This role is essential for ensuring smooth patient care throughout the surgical process.

Primary Responsibilities

• Schedule and coordinate surgical procedures, lasers, and specialized testing with facilities according to established protocols
• Obtain and document accurate patient health histories relevant to scheduled procedures
• Determine and secure necessary preoperative testing, medical clearances, pre-certifications, and insurance authorizations
• Educate patients on preoperative preparation requirements for specific procedures
• Maintain current knowledge of ophthalmologists' templates, surgical protocols, and laser procedures
• Coordinate with patients to select appropriate procedure dates considering patient preferences, surgeon availability, and facility schedules
• Prepare and manage patient information for surgeons as procedure dates approach
• Process and expedite testing results for physician review
• Manage medical correspondence as directed by ophthalmologists
• Obtain and review patient consent forms for completeness
• Arrange referrals to specialists or tertiary care centers and secure necessary authorizations
• Document surgical information and maintain compliance with HIPAA, OSHA, and practice compliance plans

Reporting Structure

Reports directly to the Surgery Scheduler Supervisor
