Ophthalmology Technician I
Position Overview
Seeking an Ophthalmology Technician I to assist ophthalmologists with patient care by performing preliminary patient workups and ocular examinations. The position reports directly to the Clinical Supervisor.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive patient workups including history taking, visual acuity testing, and various diagnostic tests
- Conduct specialized ophthalmic tests including automated visual fields, lensometry, keratometry, tonometry, and pachymetry
- Screen for ocular conditions using tests such as InflammaDry, Tear Lab, and Amsler grid
- Maintain and prepare examination lanes, including stocking supplies and basic equipment maintenance
- Document patient information accurately in electronic health record systems
- Perform hearing screenings according to established protocols
- Maintain working knowledge of EHR software updates and complete documentation to meet MIPS requirements
Requirements
- Understanding of ICD-9 and CPT coding related to ophthalmology
- Knowledge of common ophthalmology medications
- Strict adherence to HIPAA, OSHA standards, and clinic compliance plans
- Ability to maintain standard patient volume expectations
- Strong attention to detail and accurate documentation skills
- Ability to compute basic math
Qualifications:
High school diploma required.
College courses preferred.
Medical terminology preferred.
