Job Title: Medical Assistant
We are looking for a motivated and customer-focused Medical Assistant to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for patient care tasks such as screening patients, taking vitals, performing visual acuity tests, performing special testing (Optomaps, OCT, VF), and gathering medical histories. Additional duties include preparing patients for the doctor, managing medical emergencies, and triaging medical phone calls. You will also be supporting the front desk team by answering phones, checking in patients, and ensuring schedules remain full. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment, demonstrates excellent multitasking and critical thinking skills, and helps maintain provider efficiency. Proficiency with EHR systems, strong computer skills, effective communication, and a solid understanding of optical care are essential for success in this role.
Key Responsibilities:
Clinic Duties:
- Open and close exam rooms and equipment daily, ensuring readiness for patient care.
- Screen patients and gather critical information, including medical history, medications, visual acuities, vitals, intraocular pressures, and auto-refractions.
- Conduct special diagnostic tests such as OCT, visual fields, and Optomap imaging.
- Send referrals as needed and ensure accurate communication with other healthcare providers.
- Transmit chart notes via fax or patient portals promptly and securely.
- Stock and maintain medical equipment and supplies to ensure the clinic is prepared for daily operations.
- Triage medical emergencies over the phone, providing appropriate guidance or escalating as necessary.
Appointment Coordination & Patient Communication:
- Assist the front office by answering phone calls, scheduling appointments, and maintaining a full provider schedule.
- Keep patients informed about insurance status, eligibility, and necessary follow-up actions to ensure a seamless experience.
Administrative Duties:
- Proactively manage provider schedules daily to optimize clinic operations.
- Monitor and manage clinic emails, ensuring timely responses and follow-ups.
- Use tools such as Weave, Promptly, and Compulink to support clinic operations and maintain patient communication.
Customer Service:
- Greet patients warmly and ensure a positive experience throughout their visit.
- Address patient questions and concerns with professionalism and empathy.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; an Associate's degree or relevant certification preferred.
- Previous experience as a medical assistant and in a healthcare or medical office setting is highly desirable.
- Strong phone etiquette and communication skills.
- Proficiency in office software, communication tools, and EHR systems (Compulink).
- Ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality and professionalism.
- Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to prioritize tasks, and critical thinking.
- Self-motivated and capable of working independently in a fast-paced environment.
Schedule:
- Full-time, in-office position.
- Monday through Friday, 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM with a 1-hour lunch break.
Compensation:
- Wage based on experience (DOE).
