Job description
The sheet metal apprentice will work with a journeyman to fabricate and install various types of sheet metal products for facility maintenance HVAC systems.
Essential Functions
- Consults blueprints, work orders, and/or schematics to safely assist in constructing specified structure, develop additional sketches if needed
- Selects appropriate material for each job based on the desired or necessary strength
- Assists in cutting, bending, and shaping sheet metal to required dimensions
- Helps to measure, cut, and weld pieces together according to specifications, blueprints, or directions
- Connects pieces or secures seams by riveting, rolling, soldering, or using steel screws
- Performs assigned work such as punching holes for screws or bending gutters
- Use appropriate machinery and software applications to complete assigned jobs
- Helps to coordinate required shutdowns and startups of equipment with other departments after sheet metal installation
- Contributes to developing and maintaining records for projects and repairs
- Maintains clean and orderly workspace
- Performs other related duties as assigned
