Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and coordinate yard personnel to ensure efficient movement, storage, and handling of structural steel.
- Oversee loading and unloading of trucks, ensuring materials are properly secured and handled.
- We use Tekla at EZARC, however, experience with similar programs such as FabSuite, STRUMIS, or a similar inventory management system to track inventory, material flow, and job allocations, ensuring accurate record-keeping would be helpful.
- Ensure all fabricated steel components are properly labeled, checked, and loaded for accurate delivery to erection job sites.
- Work closely with logistics teams, project managers, and site supervisors to coordinate shipments and confirm job site requirements.
- Maintain accurate inventory records and ensure materials are stored according to project specifications.
- Operate and oversee the use of overhead cranes inside the fabrication buildings for material handling.
- Operate forklifts and rigging equipment as necessary to support daily operations.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, AISC, and company safety policies.
- Inspect incoming and outgoing materials for quality control and damage prevention.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free yard environment.
- Train and mentor yard employees on safety protocols, equipment use, and proper handling techniques.
- Conduct regular inspections of equipment and storage areas, reporting any maintenance needs.
- 3 years of experience in a yard foreman, warehouse supervisor, or material handling role (preferably in structural steel or heavy fabrication).
- Strong knowledge of steel handling, inventory management, and logistics coordination.
- Experience in ensuring accurate shipments of structural steel to erection sites.
- Proficiency in Tekla or other programs such as FabSuite, STRUMIS, or a similar inventory tracking system would be helpful (preferred but not required).
- Experience operating overhead cranes inside a fabrication facility (required).
- Experience operating forklifts and rigging equipment (certifications preferred).
- Ability to read and interpret load tickets, packing slips, and fabrication drawings.
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Understanding of OSHA safety standards and AISC guidelines for material handling.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, indoor fabrication environment, lifting heavy materials as needed.
- Basic computer skills for inventory tracking and documentation.
- Forklift and crane operator certification.
- Experience working in an AISC-certified fabrication plant.
- Knowledge of lean manufacturing and efficient yard management practices.
