Key Responsibilities
- Lead a team of field technicians to test, repair and splice fiber optic cables to ensure proper functioning of network infrastructure.
- Perform maintenance and repairs on existing fiber optic connections, including troubleshooting and resolving any issues that arise.
- Conduct site surveys to assess the feasibility of fiber optic installations and identify potential obstacles or hazards.
- Collaborate with engineering and design teams to develop efficient network layouts and configurations.
- Adhere to industry standards and regulations for fiber optic installation and maintenance, ensuring compliance with safety protocols.
- Coach and evaluate performance of field staff.
- Coordinate scheduling to ensure adequate staffing.
- Keep detailed records of all repairs, and maintenance activities, including documenting any changes made to network configurations.
- Provide technical support and guidance to other team members as needed.
- Respond promptly to service calls and emergencies, addressing issues in a timely and efficient manner.
- Utilize specialized tools and equipment, such as fusion splicers, light meters and OTDRs, to perform fiber optic tasks accurately and effectively.
- Stay informed about advancements in fiber optic technology and industry best practices, participating in ongoing training and professional development opportunities.
- Perform various field technician duties as needed.
- Perform other duties not listed here, as they arise, and as they are assigned to you.
- Available to work nights, weekends, and on-call shifts as needed.
- High school diploma or equivalent with 5-10 years of experience.
- Technical certifications or training in fiber optics preferred
- Proven experience working with fiber optic networks, including installation, splicing, and testing.
- Familiarity with industry standards and regulations for fiber optic infrastructure.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot network issues effectively.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work well independently and as part of a team.
- Physical stamina and dexterity to perform tasks in outdoor environments and at elevated heights.
- Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as needed.
