As the Chief Maintenance Engineer, you should be a patient leader and efficient problem solver. You will train your staff and assist with daily repair and maintenance to surpass standards for quality, cleanliness, guest happiness, safety, and security.
A successful applicant will be someone who is highly organized, can create and follow preventive maintenance schedules, efficiently administer daily work orders, and enjoys mastering, repairing, and maintaining all hotel systems and assets. The work to be performed is in a hospitality setting, so the Chief Maintenance Engineer will also need to understand that the aesthetics of the work being performed are equally as important as function. The best possible experience for our guests is of the utmost importance, offering excellent customer service and interpersonal skills. This will be achieved by a strong work ethic and effective communication skills. The ability to plan, execute, and evaluate is a fundamental skill for this position.
The hotel operates 7 days a week, 24 hours a day. Maintenance will work 5 days plus possible weekend and on-call duties.
Responsibilities include:
Develop procedures and perform routine maintenance and repairs, including replacing and repairing room furniture, fixtures, and equipment throughout the property, painting, floor cleaning, etc.
Schedule labor as needed based on workload and minimize overtime
Maintain and secure inventory of tools and supplies; order supplies as necessary while controlling costs and tracking inventory to limit theft or improper use.
Oversee third-party vendors as needed, including sourcing contractors, developing the scope of work for the project, obtaining multiple bids, analyzing the bids, and making a reasoned recommendation to upper management. Create punch lists of call-back items when the project is substantially complete. The position requires communication, working with accounting to pay the vendor after receiving lien releases.
Implement and oversee the consistent application of the preventative maintenance program via Impak. Update preventative maintenance tasks as needed.
Oversee the janitorial cleaning and maintenance of all guest-facing areas (inside and outdoors), including the grounds, parking lot, lobbies, hallways, vending areas, etc. Will be expected to work with the housepersons and housekeeping departments.
Oversee the landscape maintenance requirements for the property.
Complete work orders daily as assigned and prioritize them by importance, considering guest experience.
Minimum Experience:
At least five years of previous maintenance/engineering-related experience
Demonstrated success leading a team of employees
Minimum Skill Requirements:
Ability to effectively and safely use and instruct others in the use of common hand and power tools.
Prior knowledge and hands-on experience with HVAC, electric, plumbing, mechanical, and carpentry.
Effective organizational and time management skills.
Excellent communication and social skills with the ability to manage varying types of personalities.
Ability to develop unity amongst a diverse team.
Computer proficiency to include Microsoft suite and Google; ability to operate basic office equipment
Safety-conscious and thoughtful in all aspects of your job.
Physical, mental, and environmental demands:
Ability to stand for extended periods. Ability to walk, stoop, and kneel for long periods of time; reach overhead; push and/or pull a cart to carry linens, trash, tools, etc., or when operating equipment such as a lawnmower, pavement sweeper, wheelbarrow, etc.
Regularly lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Occasionally implement team lifting on items over 80 lbs.
Ability to consistently meet deadlines and simultaneously prioritize multiple projects.
