F.L.O.W. Recreation LLC is the official recreational therapy provider of Turnstone, Northeast Indiana's only free-standing not-for-profit organization providing a comprehensive continuum of supportive services addressing the unique needs of people with disabilities and their families. The job description will describe all the aspects the recreational therapist will have to perform and be competent in. Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialists (CTRS) work in collaboration with other members of F.L.O.W. Recreation LLC’s internal support team to design and implement individualized interventions to clients provided Indiana’s Medicaid waiver. The CTRS is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating leisure-based treatment programs for individuals with disabilities. Therapists will address physical, social, emotional, behavioral, and cognitive needs, utilizing evidence-based modalities including but not limited to: sports, fitness, arts/crafts, community outings, dance, music, drama. Therapists must uphold and promote the agency’s mission statement at all times.

Minimum Qualification:
1) Job Qualifications
a) Bachelor’s degree or higher with a major in Therapeutic Recreation or Recreational Therapy
b) Currently maintain Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) credential obtained through the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC);
c) Preferred/not required minimum of 1-year experience working with persons with disabilities;
d) Excellent written and communication skills;
e) Ability/willingness to work non-standard and flexible hours;
f) Current and valid driver’s license and dependable transportation;
g) Ability to use Microsoft Word/Excel;
h) “No findings” in nurse registry;
i) Passing state and county background checks with “no findings”;
j) Demonstrate willingness to accept supervision;
k) Demonstrate the ability to provide services according to the individual’s plan.
2) Essential Functions
a) Program coordination
i) Perform all duties in accordance with the 460 IAC State guidelines and DDRS policies;
ii) Appropriately communicate the purpose, goals, and philosophy of recreational therapy and F.L.O.W. Recreation LLC;
iii) Utilize strength-based interventions to ensure outcomes for people with disabilities based in leisure interests and personal goals;
iv) Perform interviews/consultations with new consumers;
v) Participate in all assigned meetings;
vi) Work in conjunction with F.L.O.W. owner and/or regional directors of recreational therapy to ensure quality services;
vii) Provide opportunities for inclusion through trainings, advocacy, social interactions, invitations to participate, and planned activities.
viii) Ensure timely submission of all required consumer documentation.
b) Facilitation
i) Consults as needed with supervisor concerning referrals, assessments, treatment planning, interventions, data collection, and/or evaluations;
ii) Implement individual and group programs with consumers;
iii) Participation in discharge planning/statements;
iv) Adapt interventions to meet consumer needs;
v) Provide a positive and supportive atmosphere during sessions;
vi) Encourage and promote leisure involvement opportunities;
vii) Provide adequate support to facilitate leisure participation aligning with client goals.
c) Data management
i) Complete all required reporting/documentation relating to consumers in a timely and professional fashion;
ii) Ensure accurate, consistent, valid, and reliable data collection tailored to individual consumer;
iii) Ensure service consistent with governmental and ethical policies, procedures, and regulations.
d) Assurance
i) Maintains open and consistent communication with families, consumers, allied health providers, case managers, agency staff, and state personnel;
ii) Maintain confidentiality concerning all persons served by F.L.O.W. Recreation LLC;
iii) Accrue continuing education appropriate to maintain CTRS credential as well as any continuing education mandated by governmental agencies;
iv) Ensure consumer safety during all sessions, following health and safety regulations, anticipating hazards, and taking appropriate measures;
v) Complete any incident reports to Bureau of Quality Improvement Services (BQIS) as well as F.L.O.W. Recreation LLC.
e) F.L.O.W. team
i) Promote and uphold agency mission and vision;
ii) Promote sense of community through mutual respect;
iii) Complete other duties as assigned.
