ASSOCIATE GEOLOGIST
F&ME Consultants, Inc. (FME) is searching for a qualified Associate Geologist to work out of our Columbia, SC office to coordinate and perform drilling operations for subsurface explorations. The ideal candidate enjoys working outside and wants to obtain a firsthand knowledge of South Carolina geology. The primary duty will be viewing, classifying, and logging soil and rock samples obtained during geotechnical explorations. Secondary duties may include rock core descriptions, geophysical exploration, technical writing, geologic research, and field services coordination. FME is seeking a candidate who is enthusiastic about geology and wants to use skills learned in the classroom to gain a deep understanding of South Carolina geology.
Under close mentorship from a senior level Professional Geologist, the successful applicant will be able to fulfill the following :
Initial Responsibilities
- Classify and log soil and rock core samples
- Collaborate with the drill crews on projects
- Communicate with project managers on project details while working in the field
- Asist in geophysical data collection
- Evaluate the subsurface data and correlate it to published geologic maps
