JOB TITLE:
Cost Accountant
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Performs general accounting work to include the review and processing of financial accounting documents. Ensures plantwide compliance with accounting and purchasing policies. May assist in the analysis and interpretation of accounting records for use by management. Preparation of financial and operating reports including adjusting and closing entries. Will work in developing capacities of other accounting staff in a range of accounting work assignments.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Prepare monthly cost of sales and other closing entries.
- Perform monthly review of costing tables.
- Assist in maintaining closing schedules and reporting deadlines.
- Assist in the analysis of weekly and monthly actual vs. standard variances with managers.
- Provide support for forecast and budgeting.
- Collect, compile, analyze and interpret statistical and financial data for special reports.
- Prepare monthly and quarterly FTECH reports.
- Maintain pricing discrepancy data for accrual purposes for all raw material vendors.
- Raw material accounts payable processing, including intercompany and HSP.
- Apply principles of accounting to conduct studies which provide detailed cost information not supplied by general accounting reports and systems.
- Demonstrate continued efforts to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality external and internal customer service.
- Assist with the physical inventory audit and reconciliation process.
- Sox audit support functions.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Graduation from an accredited 4-year college or university with a degree in business administration, finance or accounting
- 3-5 years relevant accounting experience; preferred 1-2 years in a manufacturing setting
- Knowledge and experience in automated (ERP) as well as manual accounting systems.
- Spreadsheet software (ex: Excel) skills to quantify and illustrate routine financial reports, comparisons, impacts and/or projections. Intermediate to Advance level experience required.
- Knowledge of basic finance, accounting and budgeting procedures, as well as, generally accepted accounting practices (G.A.A.P)

- Ability to handle confidential information appropriately.
- Ability to work quickly and accurately with numerical detail under pressure and strict guidelines.
- Ability to handle a large volume of data and maintain accuracy.
- Ability to effectively communicate with people at all levels, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to understand , interpret and explain department/plant policies and procedures.
- Ability to work under limited supervision with latitude for the use of initiative and sound independent judgement.
- Shows strong interpersonal and organizational skills and willingness to learn and to share knowledge.
- Ideal candidate will be comfortable in a actively changing environment where new systems and process are being implemented.
