Department Title: Undergrad Intern – US Institutional Sales
Location: The intern candidate must be able to commute into the New York City office each week.
Position Summary:
The U.S. Institutional Sales Division is responsible for driving new business for the firm from large institutional investors (such as public funds, corporations, and endowments & foundations), driving advocacy through global and top tier consulting firms, and defending existing book of business, currently totaling ~$25B.
Our vision is to deliver organic growth in assets & revenue, while building our reputation as a world-class and highly respected institutional investment manager. We want to consultatively engage holistically to focus on helping investors and consultants achieve their most important objectives for their beneficiaries.
We have ~25 people in our Team, which comprise of a Head of Institutional Sales, Client Advisors (focus primarily on prospects and maintaining current clients and cross-sells, Consultant Advisors (promotes advocacy to achieve buy ratings), Client Service Associates (assists assigned region), an Alternatives Advisor, and a Business Manager. We also work very closely with our DC Specialist and Institutional Marketing Team.
Our division is an exciting and dynamic group to be a part of, particularly because of our new strategic direction, and the firm’s focus to grow the Institutional channel. We are a small and close-knit group, yet the impact to the firm is tremendously important.
We are continuing to expand our presence within the firm, especially in Alternatives. Alternatives is the fastest growing area in the industry and you will get a chance to learn the various strategies our firm offers. In addition, you will be working closely with our Alternatives Director completing special projects and communicating updates across the team.
You will be expanding your network not only within the sales team, but also across FT since you will be working with various departments across the firm.
If timing/budget permits, we invite our interns to our offsite, allowing them to meet and socialize with our entire team in person.

A US Institutional Sales Intern at Franklin Templeton can expect to learn:
- Learn the daily routine of a Client Advisor, Client Service Associate and Consultant Advisor.
- Knowledge of the U.S. Institutional Industry including sales trends, growth projections, and client demand & concerns.
- Overview of our U.S. Institutional Strategy and Growth Plan
- Understand the FT Institutional Products we offer and our Focus List
- Work and partner with various departments across FT including Marketing, Investment Teams, Corporate Finance, Institutional Analytics and Data Team.
- Meet other summer interns in the New York office, with a large presence of interns working in various departments such as sales, marketing, portfolio management, technology, etc.
- An option to complete financial certifications such as Securities Industries Essentials Exam (SIE), CFA Investment Foundations, Bloomberg Market Concepts, and Microsoft Office Specialist.
- Expand your network within the sales team, FT, and externally.
Key responsibilities may include:
- Shadow East Coast Team, which are comprised of a Client Advisor, Client Service Associate and a Consultant Advisor. This includes learning their daily activities, such as approaching new prospects & servicing existing clients, expanding new contacts, and researching leads for potential opportunities.
- Attend client meetings.
- Assist Alternatives Director in promoting Alternative strategies and completing special projects, such as researching firms and coordinating/communicating updates across our team and FT. Assist in a bi-weekly education session for our team on Alternatives.
- Research leads and potential opportunities, using systems like Evestment and FinSearches.
- Assist team in special projects such as data validation, creating new dashboards/reports using Power BI, updating information in CRM, and creating presentation slides.
Ideal qualifications:
- Motivated self-starter, pro-active and independent.
- Proficient in MS applications such as PowerPoint, Excel, Power BI.
- Knowledge of CRM database and other industry applications.
- Excellent relationship management and interpersonal communication skills; Team player.

Compensation Range: This is a full-time internship where students will work approximately 35 hours per week and earn competitive hourly pay of $30 USD per hour. There are several factors taken into consideration in making compensation decisions including but not limited to location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
