Job Summary: To build or repair all types, sizes, and shapes of jigs, fixtures, tools and dies. Assemble and try out complex tools and dies on manufacturing equipment.

Essential Job Functions:

·        Reads and interprets blueprints of works from verbal or written instructions or from the part to be copied or fitted.

·        Plans the setup and operation of all types of machine shop tools, considering types of material, tolerances, types of cutting tools, coolants, lubricants and machine tool feeds and speeds.

·        Determines specifications for inspection of work, using precision measuring and gaging tools, performing required inspection before, during and after machining.

·        Performs hand operations involved in producing jigs, fixtures, tools, and dies. Uses hand tools of the trade.

·        Fits and assembles jigs, fixtures, tools, and dies. Sets up, runs off, and tests dies to produce a product to specifications, tracing die difficulties to their source and correcting same.

·        Generate complex programs utilizing cad-cam software for unattended operation of precise CNS FANUC wire EDM machines.

·        Smooth and polish flat and contour surfaces of parts or tools, using files, emery cloths, or power grinders.

·        Interpret specifications and blueprints, set up/operated precision surface grinders.

·        Comply with ISO management system quality.

·        Set up and run mills, grinding operations and die manufacturer.

·        Experience in writing and editing CNC programs such as Fanuc control.

·        Learned MI-OSHA standards and keep the shop current on MI-OSHA standards.

·        Troubleshoot dies and machinery

·        Analyze a job and perform complicate math to set up fixtures properly.

·        Skill in machining properties, blueprint reading and math as well as assisting with engineering design.

·        Verify dimensions of finished parts to ensure they conform to specifications using dial indicators, gauge blocks, calipers and micrometers.

·        Use sketches, blueprints, specifications and models to plan operations for the fabrication of dies, tools and assemblies, ensuring safety and maximum efficiency

·        Utilize hand and machine tools to assemble parts of tools and dies and to repair and modify gauges, jigs and dies.

·        Create templates and jigs to be used as work aids for convenient fabrication of products and parts.

·        Diagnose and troubleshoot problems and perform repairs on tools, manually operated dies and progressive dies.

·        Interface with external and internal customers, handle supplier and customer concerns, and work with team members to solve problems during the production process.

·        File and finish workpieces using the appropriate hand tools to ensure products are smooth and that they fit together properly.

·        Select the appropriate metals and materials to be used based on properties, ensuring they meet project specifications.

·        May assist machinists and millwrights in punch press overhaul.

·        May work with product designers providing input to manufacturing capability on newly formed products.

·        All other duties as assigned.


Qualifications:

·        Requires a very high degree of precision and control in work where damage could be high and where muscular control and delicate touch are required.

·        High degree of attention and care required, to prevent injury to self and others when operating machine tools.

Physical Qualifications if Needed: Must be able to stand for prolonged periods of time, be able to lift up to 50 lbs., Excellent visual accuracy

Education if Needed: High school diploma or equivalent, completion of apprenticeship program or trade school diploma program, 2 – 5 years of experience in tool and die making

Safety and Environment Requirements: Required to wear safety shoes and glasses. Ear plugs are optional. Ability to work in hot/cold environment.

Training Required if Needed: On the job training, basic safety training, PPE, Lock-out/tag/out, proper lifting, and confined spaces. Forklift license issued by Fab Master.

Additional Responsibilities if Needed:

·        Keep work/office area clean

·        Must have good attendance
