Job Summary
As a Senior Environmental Planner at Facet, you will oversee and manage environmental planning projects, ensure compliance with environmental regulations, and integrate sustainability principles into project planning. This role typically involves overseeing environmental assessments, managing report preparation and permit coordination, and collaborating with regulatory agencies and stakeholders. Our Senior Environmental Planners also provide high level technical expertise on environmental policy, land use planning, and natural resource management. You will report to a Principal in Planning, lead multidisciplinary teams, and manage project timelines and budgets to achieve environmental objectives within legal and policy frameworks. This position is hybrid, and may work out of our Seattle, Kirkland, Spokane, Mount Vernon, Whidbey, or Federal Way offices.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Coordination with project applicants, engineers, architects, and agency staff to ensure project permit feasibility.
- Manage project budgets, scope, timelines, and staff.
- Manage the preparation of environmental permits and documentation, including Section 404/401, HPA, shoreline, critical area permits, SEPA/NEPA, and Environmental Impact Statements.
- Review internal documentation, QA/QC.
- Lead project teams in areas of comprehensive planning, shoreline master program updates, and critical areas ordinance updates, including review of best available science.
- Lead teams in developing environmental and land use policy and regulations that protect natural resources in concert with the built environment.
- Interact and communicate with clients, regulators, and lead staff at all levels.
- Pursue projects, including proposal development and client coordination.
- Occasional travel in locations across the Pacific Northwest, including evening meetings with local municipalities.
Qualifications
Education and Experience:
- Required
- Bachelor’s degree in planning, environmental science, or a related field
- 5 years of experience as an Environmental Planner or similar role
- Experience with local, Washington state, and federal permitting
- Ability to work cooperatively on multidisciplinary projects
- Experience in oral presentations
- Experience using standard computer programs, such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
- Valid driver’s license and good driving record
- Desired
- 7 or more years of experience as an Environmental Planner

Total Compensation:
- $95,000 – 135,000/yr., full-time
- $900/mo. towards medical insurance
