Primary Purpose:
Perform mechanically-related activities required to maintain the District’s heating, ventilating and air-conditioning (HVAC) systems. Routinely clean and lubricate HVAC equipment, replace filters, and ensure equipment operates efficiently.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification
High School Diploma or GED
Valid Texas Class-C driver’s license and proof of insurability with District insurance carrier
Special Knowledge/Skills
- Knowledge and skills in HVAC preventative maintenance, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical trades
- Ability to supervise or train staff in HVAC system components
- Ability to understand, follow and issue verbal and written instructions
- Ability to work independently and in a team
- Ability to perform mathematical calculations
- Ability to diagnose and resolve problems
- Ability to use hand and power tools
- Effective organizational, communication (verbal and written), and interpersonal skills
- Ability to utilize technology resources relevant to position
Experience
Minimum two years of mechanically related field or craft experience, preferably in education environment
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Maintenance and Repair
1. Receive and perform daily assignments from supervisor(s), discuss and determines best course of action to accomplish work in an effective and efficient manner.
2. Assign and perform preventative maintenance activities including but not be limited to: inspecting, cleaning, lubricating, adjusting and replacing belts, filters, pulleys, drain pains, and water-treatment chemicals as well as work to ensure maximum operating capacities of exhaust fans and drinking fountains.
3. Provide job-related instructions and ongoing training to preventative maintenance helper to advance knowledge and skills
4. Inspect and confirm that all assignments are completed before leaving job sites.
5. Observe and coordinate most preventative maintenance work in conjunction with seasonal changes to provide the most effective system improvements and enhancements.
6. Identify and alert Preventative Maintenance Lead of needed materials, supplies, and equipment (scaffolding, lifts, etc.) for scheduled preventative maintenance.
Records and Reports
7. Maintains accurate written records of work performed on HVAC systems to track advanced notices of system falters, failures and frequency of downtimes to adequately project replacement cycles.

8. Respond in a timely manner when contacted regarding urgent situations or emergencies (during or outside of normal business hours)
9. Exhibit behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible; and serve as role model for staff and public.
10. Perform other duties as assigned.

11. Practice a high standard of safety and site cleanup in the performance of all duties.
12. Contribute to the prevention of accidents and injuries by observing safety rules and District policy, practicing the principles and skills taught in safety training, wearing personal protective equipment as required, reporting injuries and incidences immediately to supervisor, and being proactive in the ongoing efforts to improve and maintain workplace safety.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Supervise Preventative Maintenance Helper in the absence of the Preventative Maintenance Lead

- Tools/Equipment Used: Electrical measuring and testing equipment; welding equipment; hand tools; power tools; hoist; light truck or van
- Posture: Frequent standing, kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting; work in tiring and uncomfortable positions
- Motion: Frequent walking, climbing stairs/ladders/scaffolding, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension, and overhead reaching; frequent driving
- Lifting: Lifting and carrying up to 55 pounds without assistance, more than 55 pounds with appropriate assistance, on a daily basis
- Environment: Work outside and inside, on slippery or uneven walking surfaces, on ladders or scaffolding; may work on rooftops; frequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, dust, toxic chemicals and materials, noise, vibration, and electrical hazards; work around machinery with moving parts; may work in tight or enclosed spaces; may work alone; may work irregular and prolonged hours; frequent districtwide travel
