The job of HVAC Systems Mechanic is done for the purpose/s of maintaining, repairing, and installing heating and air conditioning systems and refrigeration equipment throughout the district; identifying and performing repair/replacement needs necessary to maintain equipment and systems; provide for the safe condition and operation of all HVAC systems in district facilities; work cooperatively with energy management systems; establish energy savings controls; provide necessary information on the proper uses of the equipment; and ensure adequate materials are available to complete assignments in a timely manner.
This job reports to the Director of Facilities.
Essential Functions of the position are: coordinates with principals, requesting department and other trades; diagnoses malfunctions of heating/air conditioning/refrigeration systems and/or components (e.g. chillers, boilers, cooling towers, pumps, motors, air handlers, fan coil units, rooftop units, exhaust fans, kitchen coolers, freezers, and pass-thru units); follows established safety procedures and techniques and corrects unsafe conditions in the work area; installs new heating/air conditioning systems and components along with fabrication and assembly of duct work and piping according to specifications and code; prepares departmental documentation (e.g. federal requirements of freon dispensing records, inventory of district owned tools and equipment, service records, School Facilities Board preventive maintenance records, requisitions, work performed with cost analysis, etc.); repairs, replaces, or calibrates various systems and/or components (e.g. refrigerators, air conditioning systems, heating units, condensers, cooling towers, pumps, energy controls, etc.); repairs, replaces, or calibrates controls for heating/air conditioning/refrigeration systems (e.g. unit heaters, pumps, thermostats, switches, fuses, electrical wiring, etc.); responds to emergency situations; transports various items (e.g. tools, equipment, supplies, etc.); and wires and connects motors, compressors, temperature controls and humidity controls according to wiring schematics.

Education Targeted, job related education with study in job-related area.
Clearances Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance
Universal Certification with continuing education and a valid Driver's License with Evidence of Insurability required.
