Job Description Summary

Faegre Drinker has an opportunity for a Practice Group Director to work with our Practice Management team in our Philadelphia, Minneapolis, downtown Indianapolis, Chicago, or Washington, D.C. offices. You will be part of a dynamic team dedicated to providing high-level strategic and operational support to assigned practice group leader and practice group members, and at the direction of the Senior Director of Practice Management, drive the implementation of other firm initiatives. This position will work with other talented individuals who share a passion for doing great work in the best interest of our clients.

Job Description

What you would do:

  • Facilitate the recruitment, on-boarding, integration, retention and development processes for attorneys in the assigned practice groups, collaborating with colleagues in the professional development department, the recruiting department, and office leaders and office administrators as necessary
  • Collaborate with the Legal Recruiting and Professional Development teams as needed to lead/facilitate aspects related to lawyer departure/transitions, working with appropriate department leaders.
  • Monitor hiring needs, including addressing skill gaps and resource shortages, and make recommendations to PGL and firm management
  • Participate in the partner promotion process collaborating with PGL and professional development
  • Oversee/manage secondments and alternative work arrangements and monitor workload balancing and assignments for attorneys
  • Lead/facilitate the associate review processes, both the annual process and the regular check-in process, collaborating with professional development, Partner advisors, the PGL, and team leaders
  • Facilitate and oversee practice group efforts to ensure operational effectiveness, profit growth, and innovation in service delivery, matter management, and pricing/AFA competitiveness
  • Collaborate with the Senior Director of Practice Management and other leaders to facilitate the implementation of other short and long-term strategic initiatives
  • Serve as a coach/trusted advisor to leaders and partners on group and individual plans
  • Drive and collaborate with PGLs in the development of an annual business plan, and monitor and communicate progress against plan on a regular basis
  • Collaborate with assigned marketing, finance, and firm pricing professionals to ensure initiatives are in place to facilitate the practice group’s profitable growth in revenue, market share, and the expansion of its client relationships, and to ensure overall client satisfaction
  • Special projects and other duties as assigned

The anticipated initial annual salary range for someone who is hired into this position is $155,000.00 – $210,000.00.

Actual initial salary may be above or below the above-identified range and will be based on the relevant skills, training, experience, and other job-related factors, including the location where the position is filled, in all cases consistent with applicable law. This is an exempt role and the initial salary range listed above is just one component of Faegre Drinker's total compensation and benefits package for professional staff, which includes, but is not limited to, a discretionary bonus; life, health, accident, and disability insurance; and a 401(k) plan.

What Is Required

  • Bachelor's Degree preferably in Finance, Accounting, or Business, or related experience plus generally 8 years of relevant experience and success in a professional services environment, preferably a law firm environment
  • Finance and/or professional development experience
  • Strong project management skills
  • Experience developing and managing budgets
  • Outstanding managerial, coaching, and influencing skills, and the ability to develop strong relationships with senior-level partners, other department professionals, and staff at various levels across the firm.
