Job Title: Health Aide – Public School Setting
Location: Fair Grove R-10 School District
Reports to: School Nurse/Building Principal
Classification: Non-exempt
Job Type: Full-Time Tuesday through Friday, 7:30am - 4:00pm
Position Summary: We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Health Aide to join our team. The Health Aide will assist the school nurses as directed at both the elementary and the middle school/high school level by providing direct care to students, assisting with basic health needs and activities of daily living, and supporting student well-being. This role will be fast-paced, requiring flexibility and the ability to adapt according to the various health needs of our students and demands of both health offices.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide direct, hands-on care to students who require basic first aid, assessment of acute illnesses, assistance with activities of daily living, and other health-related tasks delegated by the school nurses.
- Support students with chronic health conditions (e.g., asthma, diabetes) by following individualized health care plans.
- Respond promptly to health emergencies, including injuries, allergic reactions, and sudden illnesses, by providing first aid and determining when to seek further medical attention.
- Assist with monitoring and managing student health records, including administering prescribed medications, delegated health interventions, and documenting student health incidents.
- Clerical tasks including documenting in electronic medical records, communication via email, filing, etc.
- Maintain and clean health office equipment and supplies to ensure readiness for student care needs.
- Assist with routine health screenings (e.g., vision, hearing, and body mass index) and other health initiatives throughout the school year.
- Collaborate with teachers, school nurses, administrators, and parents to address health concerns and ensure proper care for students.
- Ensure confidentiality of student health information and comply with applicable privacy regulations (e.g., HIPAA, FERPA).
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required and 60 hrs. of college credit
- CPR certified
- Experience in a health care setting, especially with children or in a school environment, is highly desirable.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to work effectively with students, parents, staff, and healthcare professionals.
- Ability to stay calm and manage stress in fast-paced, emergency situations.
- Demonstrated ability to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism. Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks efficiently.
- Physical ability to lift, move, or assist students as needed, including responding to medical emergencies.

- Exposure to minor injuries and illness, health-related issues, and occasional stressful situations.
- Effective and professional communication with students, staff, and parents/guardians.
