Job Overview
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Activity Assistant to join our team in providing engaging and meaningful activities for residents in our long-term care facility. This role involves working closely with residents, their families, and the care team to develop and implement recreational therapy programs that promote social interaction, cognitive stimulation, and physical activity.
Responsibilities
- Assist in planning, organizing, and implementing a variety of recreational activities tailored to the interests and abilities of residents.
- Facilitate group activities such as arts and crafts, games, music sessions, and exercise classes.
- Engage with residents on a personal level to encourage participation and foster social connections.
- Monitor residents during activities to ensure safety and provide support as needed.
- Maintain accurate records of resident participation and feedback on activities.
- Collaborate with nursing staff and social workers to address the individual needs of residents.
- Support memory care initiatives by implementing specialized programs designed for cognitive engagement.
- Assist with scheduling activities to ensure a balanced program that meets the diverse needs of all residents.
Requirements
- Experience in caregiving or working with individuals with disabilities is preferred.
- Background in recreational therapy, social work, or related fields is a plus.
- Familiarity with memory care practices and long-term care settings is highly desirable.
- Strong schedule management skills to coordinate various activities effectively.
- Excellent communication skills to interact positively with residents, families, and staff members.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment while also being self-motivated.
