Position Summary Restaurant Host/Hostess is responsible for immediately recognizing and greeting arriving guests’, obtaining guests’ names, providing names to servers, and directing guests to the appropriate waiting areas. Upon a guests’ departure, Host’s should thank them and ask them to return.
Duties and Responsibilities
Assists the Manager on Duty in planning reservations and assigning parties to appropriate tables, stations, and/or servers.
Answers the telephone in a timely, pleasant, and courteous manner
Correctly takes, confirms, and documents reservations
Escorts guests to their assigned table, delivers and presents menus to all guests
Control the flow of business by practicing rotation seating, anticipating table turns and following the reservation and seating plan
Accurately quotes waiting times to guests and correctly maintains the “wait” list
Maintain a clean entrance area including windows, floors, and surface areas
Responsible for insuring restrooms are clean- sanitizing high-chairs, boosters, and pens
Carry out orders, payment, curbside delivery
Check-in servers: ensure servers have their liquor licenses, etc.
Position Requirements
Communication Skills: Communication is key to Restaurant Service positions. You will need to listen to the customer's order, relay it to the cooks, tell customers about specials, and more. You will need great listening and speaking skills to create a great dining experience for customers.
Honest, reliable, responsible, and dependable.
Customer Service: A dissatisfied customer is not going coming back!!! A friendly, relaxing demeanor, courteousness and quick service will help you get repeat customers.
Stamina: Long, busy days on your feet are the trademark of a Restaurant Service position. Standing for extended periods of time up to 8 hours. Lift up to 30 pounds. Bend, stretch, twist, push, pull or carry.
Availability: Must have flexible hours, open availability, and work weekends.
Teamwork: You are part of a team. You will be working with other Servers, Service Assistants, Bartenders, Hosts and Kitchen staff to make a great dining experience. Being a team player is essential.
Cleanliness: Being clean and neat when serving food and drinks will help create a great first impression to your customers.
Willingness to Learn: Enhancing a guest’s experience requires in depth knowledge of Food, Wine, Beer and Spirits. Once that knowledge is acquired, you must use it!
